Celestia tucks her sister in and opts for a night sleeping on the rug after Luna falls asleep on her bed again.

The idea for this picture came from a comment by a friend of mine about how they were temporarily unable to use their bed due to their cat having commandeered it. Given the young-princesses mood I'm in at the moment, this ponification of that concept just popped into my head.

This picture was my first time drawing a proper foal to show-accurate proportions. Getting her to look like Luna given the angle she's lying at was quite tricky; I'm just glad her colour scheme's fairly recognisable. As for Celestia, I wanted her to look sort of teenagerish. The ponytail actually arose because her neck was so far forward that her mane was barely visible hanging behind it. It certainly added to the youthful appearance.

EDIT: So much for show-accurate proportions. I couldn't shake the feeling that Luna was off, so I increased the size of her body relative to her head and it now feels much better, at least to me. This is something I've noticed a lot; I consistently want to draw heads smaller than they are in the show, and I have to work quite hard to draw anything actually show-accurate in that sense. It's odd, given that I never find the larger heads unnatural or offputting in the show. I think it's somehow to do with the fact that they're animated in the show, and the movement makes them look alive and helps get past the uncanny valley.
