Description Way, way old picture. You like those lines? I used to do that all the time! Anyways, wonky anatomy and the lines are very distracting, but I still like it. My mom has it hanging in a bathroom and refuses to take it down.

Also, don't mention the baby's horn. Don't ask me what I was thinking either. I finished the picture and went, "Wait a minute."

This is a piece I'll probably redo someday. Bad as it is, I still like it. Hopefully you do too! Please don't critique this, as it's about six years old. If you have ideas or suggestions for a remake, feel free to let me know!

By the way, this shows I wasn't always really good. At the time, I thought this was an amazing piece! Now, I wouldn't even consider selling prints. So, moral of this lesson, you want to be a better artist? You can.

This is so cute! I really love the trees in the bg! they are actually there. None of my drawings ever have like an interesting background...

Thank you! The trees were inspired by trees I had been driving past almost daily for work.

It's really interesting to see your old work and what parts of it that you carried with you into what you do today.
You're right - if you compare it to the 'realistic' images that yous trive for, it's definately shows at 'rior' to today - but for a total seperate style, I kind a like it

Thank you! It is interesting to see what's carried through. And how far I've come! I still like it too, though, even as bad at it is.

Aww I felt in love with the shading!! The shadows are so soft and everything is so well defined...you are very talented!

Thank you! The lines do a lot for defining, but I think they can be really distracting too. I am happy you like it though!

The foal looks so funny I'm really curious how could the mother gave birth to him/her!

He definitely does! Especially his back left leg, that I could never figure out how to place it.

Come to think of it, I uploaded some old art that may or may not date as far back as that. Mine definitely look a lot worse, espeically my grasp of human anatomy

Well, this was an improvement from where I was in high school. I cringe at those pieces! Most of them were pretty bad.

MalteseLizzieMcGee [2009-05-04 05:22:49 +0000 UTC]

This is quite cute: I love their hooves. but it does look old compared to the rest of your gallery.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to MalteseLizzieMcGee [2009-05-04 06:40:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Poorly shaded, the lines are totally distracting. The hooves were a temporary solution to my inability to draw horse hooves. But that's okay. I learned a lot from this piece and want to redo it some day!

MalteseLizzieMcGee In reply to Aryenne [2009-05-04 09:29:31 +0000 UTC]

My favourite way of drawing hooves was to hide them in long grass or water-i got very good at drawing grass

There's a good way to go! I was lazy at the time and didn't do a lot of backgrounds.

So cute! Yeah the horn is a bit ... wow. And the foal's hooves are about the same size as the parent, lol. But I like it

This is adorable. And actually, I kind of like the lines. Hehe. The massive hooves are great, they give it all character. I would love to see a remake too! Would do that in color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to AnnaCStansfield [2009-05-03 21:27:41 +0000 UTC]

I would do it in color. With white, pearlescent coats and beams of sunlight coming through!

And thank you! Those big hooves were a temporary alternative to my inability to draw hooves at all!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaCStansfield In reply to Aryenne [2009-05-04 00:00:06 +0000 UTC]

Lol! Go giant hooves!

I cannot wait to see this. Seriously.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to AnnaCStansfield [2009-05-04 05:32:33 +0000 UTC]

It's a little further down the road for me right now. But it will get done at some point! And those giant hooves were on like four or five pictures I did before I realized I'd rather learn how to draw them realistically.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AnnaCStansfield In reply to Aryenne [2009-05-04 15:33:51 +0000 UTC]

I have patience.

That's awesome. Only four or five pictures? Wow, some of my phases for little things lasted like a year. I used to draw all people with massive heads and tiny bodies. I look at them now and it scares me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to AnnaCStansfield [2009-05-05 23:13:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, I drew pretty much the same from 12 to 22. It wasn't until after college I started trying to improve. So . . . I guess that counts like a long phase! Then I stumbled across *Losmios on Elfwood and knew I wanted to draw like that someday.

Oh man XD I like how you say how horrible it is (and I suppose it kind of is, compared to your work now), but it's still tons better than where I'm at. I really do like it, too. A remake would be awesome!

The horn on the baby does crack me up a bit XD I didn't even realize until you mentioned it, and then I had to think about it. I was like, what's so bad about...oooooooooooh.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Aryenne In reply to Raitalle [2009-05-03 20:59:07 +0000 UTC]

It's funny how something can seem like such an accomplishment. And, it really is, in all honesty. Every piece I've done I learned stuff from. This really was probably one of my best pieces from 2003. But now, I've come so far beyond where I was, that it's almost laughably bad!

But I think it's fun to see where artists were at in the best. I know it always inspires me, and reminds me that they had to work to get to their skill level. It encourages me to keep working too!
