Yay! I made it! After several requests from friends, I made an eye tutorial! 8D You will have a behind-the-scenes look at how I make my eyes so shiny and animu-like. And since I only used a mouse to do this, anyone can do it! All you need is Photoshop 7.0 and a little variety. ^___^Related content

What if you're somebody who doesn't use photoshop? Is there any way I could still make the beautiful effects?

simply use a darker shade for the pupil and a bright, lighter tone for the iris.

I tried it and failed, I don't know why but it seems my photoshop probably needs to have a specific setting because when I try to use the burn or dodge tools, they won't go. If you have any ideas as to why that is, please let me know. Thanks.

check the strength of the tools -- they should be at least 50%
your burn and dodge tool should also be set to midtone unless you're doing extreme highlights -- in which case your dodge tool would be set to highlight at at least 80% strength

Thanks so much for making this; I had to edit some things a bit since I use GIMP instead of Photoshop, but this was very helpful.

What brushes did you use to draw it though? i have nothing but the basic photoshop ones and i just could not draw the lineArt thing that good.. the eye looks ok, i need a bit of practice but if you could give the names of the brushes ^.^ that would realllly help <3

try using the pen tool for even lines. I used a combination of the basic hard and soft brushes for the shadows/highlites. It's been a long time since I've used that method but I think that's what I used.

Very good tutorial, really helped me, one note to add, on the dodge tool bit, you say set to highlights then draw, i had to set it to shadows to actually make it brighter, possibly just my Photoshop been a silly arse but it worked xD
