Verbena learns the hard way why patience is a big part of learning Air magic.

She was very motivated to learn... although her wings still seemed to be steadily growing, she couldn't shake the thought that her heavy body might need a little extra help getting airborne, and flight was her greatest dream. Unfortunately patience wasn't her strong suit. Verbena grasped enough to realize that she'd have to learn the lesser forms of air manipulation first, but once she had her first assignment, she couldn't wait to get home to try it. Home proved to be too noisy, so, unwilling to go outside due to the much hated cold, she tried her hand at the arboretum in the park. But the park arboretum was also a haven for many wynglings who were too small to venture into the snow or just plain preferred not to, as she did...

Eventually the only option to escape distractions seemed to be to brave the winter weather, and Verbena found herself wishing she'd taken the Fire class instead. Still, when she finally found her peace and quiet, she understood the need for patience that Mrs. Netty insisted, and more, that Air magic wasn't the rigorous discipline that Verbena had assumed it was. It was far more of an art, as an open, flexible mind was needed to keep up with the shifting nature of Air. And that's what the patience was about... waiting and keeping the mind still until she could sense the flow.
