Description Of all feathered things that fly through the air,
from the swift flying sparrow to the high soaring hawk
The greatest of all makes southern islands it's lair-
'tis the great bird that men call the Roc.

The Thunderbird's wingbeats fan fast running gails
(For so I have heard it said)
The winds of it's passage rip the fabric of sails
and it's scream fills the bravist with dread.

The vast size of it's wings can blot out the sun
And the sight- makes the boldest man weep
elephants are carried away by it's talons
And on their bones it settles down to sleep.

I seem to recall using mechanical pencils on this? It's been a while. But I was inspired by the fact that I love giant mythical birds a whole bunch, and ever since reading the 1001 Nights, the Roc is my favorite.Β

would you mind if i used this in a school project on fantasy creatures? the final result might end up on DA as well, and i would of course give you full credit for your work. if you don't want it on DA, i will simply take it out.

As long as I get full credit, I'm happy. Go right ahead.

thank you very much. could you give me a name i can credit it to on the project i hand in? it can be a pen name or nickname or something if you don't want to give me your real name. i'll take it off the DA version and put your username instead.

Nice perspective. This would make a great illustration for the 101 Nights.

101? you mean 1001 don't you?
But aside from that, thanks. The roc is one of my favorate mythical animals, although it seems likely to me that it was based on stories of the Haast eagle, and as such is not so much mythical as exaggerated.

yea, 1001. A typo. That's what happens when your computer lives in a freezing basement.

you should wrap it in blankets to take care of it. Computers are cold blooded animals, and part of your responsibility as a pet owner is keeping them comfertable.

Well, actually, it's my hands that quit working. I'm the ectotherm. Can't type when your fingers don't bend.

how cold does it get where you are? I'm in atlanta and we haven't dropped below sixty all winter.

You lucky dog!!!!!!! It was -18 the other day here. That's a little unusual for the Missoula Valley, but we still have about a week of subzero weather each winter and 60 doesn't happen until late spring.

damn. I lived south all my life, never had to deal with that. The winters here never get exactly as cold as that, but this winter (heh, if you can call it that) is weird. we normally get at least some snow, but we haven't even gotten any ice. Its weird.
Heh. Global Warming.
