Description A sketch of the Angel of Death from Hellboy 2. Interestingly, the depiction of the angel of death in the film is quite similar to the traditional depiction of Seraphim in the apocrypha; four wings, eyeless but all seeing, and shrouded in black.

This is a late entry for Halloween.

Its lovely how the biblical angels are nothing like the modern "winged people". Many wings, eyes on the feathers, many faces, etc., don't sound very human to me

Yeah, I agree. Winged people are somewhat...well, I wont say boring. But Biblical angels are just awe inspiring, and symbols of god's power. According to Kabbalism, they're almost elder gods in and of themselves.

Hell, Tv Tropes even lists them as "eldritch abominations", just like Lovecraft's gods:

Ahh, that boiling vertex of free time devouring. You should be careful posting links. That site might qualify as one as well.

Yes, I love TV tropes. Wrote at least one article

I thought a seraphim had six wings, two that cover its face, two that cover its feet, and two it uses to fly. And that your drawing fits the discription of a cherubim.

Loved the film.

The wings of your drawing look more "feathers" than those in the film Lol

I'd been seeing this guy since the first trailer for Hellboy II, and yet his design STILL blew me away when I saw the movie.
Excellent sketch of the character too, I like the longer jawline you gave him, makes him even less humanoid.

Thanks. I wanted him to look like he was the incarnation of death for all things, something sort of implied in the film but never really played with in the design.

Very interesting take on an age old concept. Very well done.

Well, the concept itself isn't mine, much as I'd like to claim it. It's developed by the concept artists for the film. However, I did fuse several earlier concept ideas (the skin-clothing, jaws within jaws) with the final film version.
But thanks!
