Description Well, I just got hold of some cool blue cathode lights to go inside my case, and so I also had a bit of a clean and tidied some wires. There is also a UV cathode behind the top of the window so hopefully I can get some UV reactive wires and things soon to use it with.

I just took a few pics as I wanted to update my desk shots and I was bored.

I bought the same gpu as yours XD, and a mobo close to yours , mines the P5Q3. I ended up buying an intel core 2 quad q9550 2.8 ghertz and brought it up to 3.1 . Even though this coolermaster case I got has very good cooling I dont wanna push it any further.

Nice... nice CPU aswell, I don't think I would go any higher than that with a quad anyway

Wow , I wish I could afford such a PC. I'll get a new one , prolly an alienware laptop in about a year when I'll leave for uni. And theres nothing bad about the gfx card, its among the 5 best that exist. CPU shouldave been a quad but that one seems badass even if its just a core duo. Does it make any noise?

asherzgfx In reply to Aspras [2009-03-01 20:25:16 +0000 UTC]

Hey Aspras,

Problem with the Quad CPU is that they dont overclock quite aswell, (what I heard anyway) and also I can get this one sitting nicely at 4Ghz which is plentyfull.

I am considering the the new i7 quad, currently the best processer out, but if I get that then to upgrade the system to allow it to use the processer will cost alot of money lol, something like £600 if not more. The motherboard for it is bluddie nice though.

As for the noise, if I have the fans set to max then they do make alot of noise and it gets bluddie cold in my room lol, but I tend to keep on energy saving mode for browsing the web and its nearly silent.

Looks very nice!
you overclocked the processor pretty nice also to a stunning 4GHz
pretty weird you have a mid-range graphics card in it, with such a high end cpu and big screen
and btw: is that GEIL Blackdragon memory? [the red leds ]

asherzgfx In reply to coreper [2009-02-23 15:57:43 +0000 UTC]

yea it is only 2gb sticks thought... not much more needed with xp though would definitly go to 4-8 if I went with vista or win7.

Whats wrong with my graphics card? It does its job I can manage high specs on most games, I will definitly consider the 4870 though.. or 2X if I had the money

cool
the graphics card, well, its very nice, though since your cpu is so high clocked, a faster graphics card would make more sense
like my nVidia GeForce GTX285

when I get some more cash I will definitively consider the GTX, but I heard there is some new cards coming out soon, so I think I may invest in a new mobo which supports X2 cards and also looking down the line of modding the antec 900 for better cable management or creating one from scratch. Also looking at water cooling

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

coreper In reply to asherzgfx [2009-02-24 19:30:47 +0000 UTC]

sounds nice
about the graphics cards: are you sure you want to wait that long? since the 4870X2 is very fast, and not to expensive, at the moment.
and you can use any X2 g.card on any motherboard you want, since the only thing which can be different for every motherboard, is the speed the connection works at... and since a X2 card is 2 chips on 1 card, it should work fine...

if youre going to mod your case, you should post some WIP screens
i also saw this awesome website about casemodding a while ago, maybe you like it: [link]
they have awesome casemods

Cool,

Thanks for the link, I'll check through it later, I bookmarked it... I'm a member of [link] which are quite cool for case mods and anything in general in that kind of area

As for the X2 option I will consider it, but I am not sure if my mobo supports X2 Cards :S it only has one blue slot which was a pain in the ass if I remember because it was only like £10 more for the X2 slots on the pro version but I didn't realized it existed lol.

I would be interested in water cooling though.. as long as its not mega expensive, I would like the X2 graphics cards aswell lol... but also a cool looking upgraded motherboard with better cable management as this current one is crap because the power to the mobo is in the top left -.- which is so awkward. So much I want and so little money to buy it all lol.

Ah well guess I will have to look into all options birthday coming up in may so I guess that will be a good time to get it ready for.

About the X2 option: what do you mean by that? PCIe 2.0?, PCIe 16x, or an option to have 2 gfx cards in your system?

Thermaltake released a new WC set recently, which should be very easy to use: Thermaltake PW880i: [link]
I don't know if its for sale yet, but i think so.

And if you move to watercooling, you wont need another case anymore, since cable management isnt needed anymore, since you dont need a good airflow
I have aircooling in my pc, and it works just fine. [That reminds me, i gotta make some pics of my computer for DA [the current one is outdated] ]
And my case doesnt have very good cable management, or special airflow improving features: my case is the Recom Backdraft Black
I really like that case
here is a little sneak peak at my system: [link]

Cool, Nice system...

That water cooling set is pretty cool, but I have taken into consideration some issues with it such as pipes being pulled out etc, (4 year old sister) etc.

I am seriously considering to build my own case out of wood with a cool mod

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

coreper In reply to asherzgfx [2009-02-26 10:12:30 +0000 UTC]

lol, i guess you should lock your room then, to keep your sister out
but if you keep your system closed, that shouldnt be a problem, since the pipes at the back are protected by the radiator/cooling system

a wooden case would be awesome something to give you some inspiration: [link]
a wooden case would be very nice, since you can mount anything, anywhere you want, just put a screw through it

looks very very very nice!!
though the purpose of the fans underneath the dvd drive is a bit unclear to me...
also 3 fans on the top, would definitly make some noise... you should either go for very silent fans, or less fans, 2 maybe?
the fan at the bottom is a good idea!, though if you place this case near your mouse, you will get cold hands pretty fast just something to keep in mind

oh, btw: where will the powersupply be positioned?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

asherzgfx In reply to coreper [2009-02-27 17:02:25 +0000 UTC]

Oh hey, I'm not sure what you mean by the fans underneath the DVD drive, but to the left there are three blocks, the bottom will house the PSU, with the wires to the back right leading behind the mobo for optimum cable management, on top of that block the second one, will house the HD drives, and the top the DVD drive.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

coreper In reply to asherzgfx [2009-02-28 09:55:58 +0000 UTC]

The three blocks, arent they on the right side, instead of left?
So, if i understand correctly, the blocks are going to be like this: [link] ?
Pretty cool to have the PS in such a alternative location, the only thing you would have to watch is if your cables are long enough...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

asherzgfx In reply to coreper [2009-03-01 20:27:49 +0000 UTC]

Yea thats what I was worried about, but I am getting it all drawn up in C4D with measuremnts etc, sorry if I said left side btw, I did mean right lol.

As for the length again, the actually main case on the left won't be much bigger than the motherboard, and the cables will be directly ran through the back from the box, because I'll have the PSU wires leading from the left side of the small box straight behind the motherboard, so hopefully it'll all reach lol, I'll have to work it out.

I also talked to my school and they said they will lend me some liquid solvent to put the acrylic pieces together so thats handy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

coreper In reply to asherzgfx [2009-03-02 19:09:38 +0000 UTC]

Sounds pretty nice
As for the cable lengths, if you put the motherboard so close to the powersupply as you say, it wont be a problem

Pretty cool your school is willing to help you with the case
What kind of school are you on?

asherzgfx In reply to coreper [2009-03-02 19:31:37 +0000 UTC]

Just your average school, nothing special

boys and girls, but the tech department is pretty well equipped, and I do pretty well in my graphics subject, and get on well with the resistant materials teacher, he's a nice guy... I just asked him what I would need to attatch acrylic sheets together with and he said liquid solvent, I asked how much it was and he said dont worry you can use the stuff here

Hey,

I just did a render in C4D, give you a better idea of what it'll look like

I made a few minor adjustments.

[link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

coreper In reply to asherzgfx [2009-03-04 19:29:28 +0000 UTC]

looks really nice!
the adjustments you made also make it look much better
just one thing: dont forget to add damping materials to also make the case silent

and something else: will you also make fans and a grill in the PSU box? since the PSU will need to blow out his heat, and suck air from the bottom...

and about the maximum airflow: didnt you forget a casefan on the left side of the case? else the CPU fan wont be able of blowing away its heat... or will you mod the CPU cooler to blow upwards?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

asherzgfx In reply to coreper [2009-03-04 20:53:58 +0000 UTC]

No I just forgot it lol, I was too lazy to put it in

As for the PSU, basically there will be a fan on the front, then one on the back, to keep the air flow passing through.

asherzgfx In reply to coreper [2009-02-26 17:33:14 +0000 UTC]

Yea definitly, I am really considering the watercooling now, it's sexiness and coolness (temps) is just to much to resist lol

If I build the case I will probally be doing an SFF case, nice and compact. I have a few compact ideas of having a think small piece of wood not much larger than the motherboard and GPU, with an acrylic screen which will house the motherboard, behind that a section for wires, and to the side seperate boxes ontop of eachother 1 with PSU, HD bays and other DVD drive.

I have a few models in sketchup which ill have up on GUIstation, so I'll send you a link when I post it.

asherzgfx In reply to Bigdave00 [2009-02-23 20:47:51 +0000 UTC]

Yea I know, I was just kidding

I would go for the 4870 or GTX, but I was already up around the top end of my budget when I got this, I think I may ask for the 4870 for my bday if I put some money to it, would a 4850 and 4870 work as a X2? If not then Ill consider waiting for the card because there are some new ones coming out soon, and consider water cooling and a new mobo
