I know nothing about Stargate , but the character Anubis is the black dog in this comic, the other character is not the same lol I have no idea what Anubis would be in Stargate, feel free to fill me in though!

Well, there's a few seasons' worth of lore behind it, which has a huge giggle-factor for anyone who likes sciency-type stuff, so I don't know if I can explain in a way that isn't confusing.

Anubis started life as a Goa'uld, which is a sort of snake-like creature that can take over other people's brains by burrowing into the base of their skull. As you can imagine, they aren't very nice, but that's actually for a different reason. Anubis is particularly nasty, and he's also fiendishly clever, gaining a tremendous amount of power before the other snakes kicked him out of the Galaxy. He has spent a long time in exile, and he's used it to gain entry to another class of beings who exist as pure energy. Very fiendishly clever. He is able to fool one of them to show him how to "ascend" and become one of these beings, which gives him access to all their knowledge. Nasty fucker that he is, he gets kicked out again and loses that access, but because these beings follow a strict set of peculiar rules, he's allowed to keep all the knowledge, and only the knowledge, that he could have gained without ascending. Which still makes him very very very dangerous. He's working very hard on discovering for himself how to ascend, but like any evil genius, he spends his free time rampaging across the galaxy, to cool off.

Some of this stuff happens off-screen, but most of it just kind of pops up here and there in different episodes. It makes a little more sense in context. Not much, but some.
