Description

The soft glow had grown stronger, from nothing to a flicker that illuminated the streets at night. Visual whispers of what was to come, reminders wrapped around spires, hanging from buildings, decorating roads and corals and everything they attached to - which was almost everything, the little ones were not picky.
It helped that their surrounding were owned by people very willing to give them up for the duration of the process. More than willing actually, joyous. Giggles and coos often floated over to the lanterns as they were detoured around.
It was their future after all.
Everyone in the village knew and was anxiously anticipating the night when the lanterns would open and many little ones would exit and flit around like moonlight on the waves, beautiful, magical. The night filled with with music, banquets, prayers; welcoming the little ones with open hearts and wide smiles.
For a good start in their lives. For a good continuation of their peoples' future.

The DM of my DnD group made a homebrewed race called Aquatians and they are fish people (fieple?) and they are gorgeous and I love them very much. My cleric Glub is one of them and so is the goddess she crushes on.

Their art is the absolute best and their commissions way cheap, I'd totally check both the commissions and the artist out!

So I was thinking about how Aquatians make more Aquatians because I got way deep into and also cryptobiology or xenobiology or whatevrr is epic and I love it. So I was thinking of K- versus r-strategists and fish vs human and then had the idea of lantern babies.
They are inspired by shark eggs, also known as mermaids purses (look em up they are fascinating and pretty adorable) and those awesome chinese lanterns, as Aquatians are by the words of the mighty DM heavily Asian coded.
It also fits the plot point of the Aquatian population being on the decline, because those eggs let water through, and pollution is a big binch.

Another idea I toyed with was having all the lantern babies be in a glowy glowy cave of beauty. And babies. Not that the two are mutually exclusive.

Overall I am super proud of this, the idea, the art, pretty much everything.
My little brother also liked it and was that is was supposed to be under water, big moment for me <3
I could have gone more outside my comfort zone and resisted the thick lines that I added at the way end, but I already did architecture and landscape and stuff, that is a tiny miracle right there. Hale-hecking-luja!

Speaking off landscapes I heavily relied on this stock , can't get ALL the credit for being that good with perspectives and stuff (yet)
