Description Still working on it, but suffice to say it's causing no end of rage and aneurysms. Ability to do it isn't the problem, trust me.
Many thanks to ~Captain-Nintendork 's [link] consolidation of the dimensions of Hyrule, Termina, Labrynna and Holodrum. (This works because in chat we roll with them being neighboring countries to allow larger adventures and ranges of characters. Yes, WE KNOW IT'S NOT CANON, so please don't start.)
And many more thanks to ~StarRaven for making her [link] map brushes available.

Nice looking map and it actually pieces it together okay. Especially considering Termina probably doesn't exist on the same reality in canon, this is a great job of melding all of Hyrule together. xD

That's... Hyrule the planet... not the country... =w=;;

I almost hesitate to say anything because, OMG MAP FABULOUS SOPRETTY.

But. Y'knew there was a "but" coming, didn't you?

The labeling sort of gets lost, where it's over other features like forests. And I would expect to see major habitations labeled, especially Clock Town and Hyrule Castle.

And, gotta ask...were you using the Gamecube or Wii version of the TP map? Because the Wii version flipped the map along with the rest of the game (that whole crap about right-handed people not being able to absorb playing a left-handed character). The original GC version has the Gerudo Desert on the left/west, the way it is in OoT, IIRC.

The Great Bay also doesn't seem very Bay-like -- but like the rivers, that's Nintendo's fault, not yours.

Like the font; it recalls the TP writing, and fits the feel of the map, but is very readable.

And I need to download those brushes, they look awesome.

Oh, I know. It's not finished you know. <3 And yes I'm fully aware of the labeling issue. Was just getting a feel for it.

I have no idea Sounds like the GC version. Gerudo desert IS on the left, twixt Hyrule and Termina.

Yeah. I may jut Woodfall out a bit more yet to get that bay look going. *shakes fist at Nintendo* You fail at rivers!!!!

! Win.

You should, go give ~StarRaven love.

D'oh. I mistook the Gerudo Desert on the map for Eastern Termina.

In fact, I didn't even see Labrynna down there. This has been one of those "not worth chewing through the leather straps" days.

In that light, then, I'd say Termina and Labrynna look a little small, in relation to big ol' Hyrule. Unless that's Holodrum, down there southeast of Faron/Eldin, and I'm just blind. Totally possible, today. >_<

I'll shut up now and let you get back to cartographin'.

XD 'sokay.

Yeah, once I finish, it should help.

It is Holodrum down in the se, and I do think they look a little small, but *shrug*.

Sorry to interrupt there, but the Cartographers Guild ([link] ) is a great resource for map-related stuff, including a ton of really good tutorials.

I hope that helps! *scurries off*

Man, that looks fantastic so far! Just wow. It's really looking beautiful. I love what you've done with the brushes so far.

Er... I have just one crit. I know you didn't ask, but I hope you don't mind me saying anyway. It's the rivers.

Rivers always flow downhill from the areas of highest elevation to the area of lowest elevation (the ocean.) So, rivers never flow across continents, from ocean to ocean. They also almost never split and come back together, and when they do, it's not for very long. It's explained a lot, in detail, here ([link] ).

I hope it helps more than it hinders you! It's a beautiful map, and I'd rather point this all out to you now before it's totally finished.

<3 And I love that you made 'em available. Saves tons of time, I have to say, even if I'm still doing a good portion by hand.

<3 No, it's fine. I like it when people are able to just go ahead and go 'that's great, but ___ should get fixed because ___ and you could try ___.' Not enough people have the stones, IMO.

Yeah, I do remember that whenever I'm mapping for other projects. For some of these I'll double check, but others I can't really do so much about without completely deviating from the game maps. I'm guessing it's the northeast and southwest quadrants you're really getting at - am I right? Can't change 'em much more than that. But I'll see what I can tweak elsewhere before I get much further ahead. Thank you for the link!

StarRaven In reply to Asraniel [2010-02-17 22:02:11 +0000 UTC]

In the northeast, actually, it looks like you've got a lot of long lakes to me, heh. The only place there that look problematic is the fairly far north on them where it looks like you have a rive splitting into three other rivers flowing south, downhill, into stagnant lakes. These can be changed pretty easily without messing with much, if you don't mind some suggestions. The eastern river that splits looks like it should be coming down from those mountains, and not connected at that point at all. That's actually really it, now that I think of it. The lakes can be passed off as flowing into the rest of the river rather than out of it.

That collection of little rivers and the lake in the southeast is what actually looks the worst to me. You've got a river flowing from the mountains, into a lake, which is flowing into another lake, which goes nowhere.

In the southwest, what it looks like you have is large islands right near the coast, so those "rivers" look more like coastlines to me. North of that, though, you have a little river that is most definitely flowing uphill over a mountain to get to a larger river, which is flowing in the opposite direction.

It looks like Hyrule here must have a lot of underground caverns. (Thus why there are a lot of lakes with no rivers coming out of them - those rivers could be underground.)

Anyway, bodies aren't just connected, they flow from one to another. While you draw the rivers, ask yourself which way they are flowing.

Good luck on this lovely map! I really like that font you're using, by the way! What is it called/who makes it?

I always thought the various countries all went together too... Hyrule and Termina did in my fanfiction anyway ^^' Very nice map design.
