The Civil Wars - C'est la Mort

This was originally just supposed to be a journal skin but I enjoyed the image enough that I did not want to just leave it at that. Also, Castiel in this image was not originally supposed to be Castiel. That, however, is another story.

There is a fair amount of symbolism in the picture, Castiel in the mental hospital with the pills that begin his spiral to what he was in 2014. Then there are the signs, the directions he failed to follow that bring him to his own death in that future.

My words fail me tonight, but I hope you all enjoy this.

Update: I actually just remembered what I was going to say. When I listened to this song for the first time, I thought back to the episode that actually featured 2014!Castiel. Dean knew that mission was a trap, he knew that they were all going to die and yet he still wanted Castiel there. Then there is when he goes to kill Dick Romain. He wanted Cass to go with him, "cursed or not". This song got me thinking, maybe Dean had a reason he wants Castiel there.

What if he wants Castiel with him if he dies because he doesn't want Castiel to be left behind like he was when he thought the Angel dead? What if he remembers how hard it was, how much he struggled and he is afraid for his friend? What if he is just scared of what would become of him? This is not a theory made with my proverbial 'shipper goggles' on.

He lost his best friend for almost an entire year and it was killing him. Granted, Dean had a broken brother and his mentor was dead, but even when Sam was 'handling it' he was still drinking enough liquor to challenge Castiel's liquor store. It was killing him like he was borderline killing himself. Imagine how much harder it would be on Castiel?

He was an Angel once, a true one and he could have simply brought Dean back. How much harder would it have been for him to lose someone he cared about with the knowledge that at one point he could have done something? Taking all of this into consideration, I am starting to believe that 2014!Dean was not cruel to Castiel. He was not as broken as most believe him to be. He was trying to make sure that he wasn't leaving him behind.
