A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for Armada Sideways downloaded from Hasbro's official Transformers website, [link]

First member of the “Gestalt Project” Technobot team, and in my opinion, one of the two weakest (though still acceptable in my book) is Afterburner. I can’t help but feel a little disappointed in this one, for the simple fact that Sideways just isn’t an appropriate Motorcycle mold for the character. Afterburner was a futuristic, rocked boosted cycle, covered in massive heavy artillery, yet still managed to look sleek and cool. This thing is just…a boring, dull, normal motorcycle, with a pretty bland robot mode. Now don’t get me wrong, I think Motorcycle Transformers are probably the hardest to make successfully, and I’ve yet to come across one that I didn’t like (well, maybe G1 Groove…*shudder*), but the fact of the matter is, this mold is just NOT up to par with that badass that Afterburner is. BUT, there’s not a whole lot of other choice in the matter, so this is the mold he gets. I sure wish I could have gotten an advanced version of the sweet new Motorcycle mold from the newest/next TF line, cause he would have been MUCH more appropriate. (On a side note, I can’t WAIT to get my hands on some of the TF: Cybertron/Galexy Force figures and line art. Everything is just so unique and cool looking, I’m gonna be in repainting paradise…hehe…) Overall…another case of “I did the best I could given the blah blah blah”. I’m still content with him, I just don’t think he transferred as well as the other team members. A shame cause I really like this character.

Given Afterburner’s bio, I always had him pegged as a potential “deserter” on the Autobot side. Why not? The ‘Cons have plenty of members that are unsure of the cause and would/could/should possibly defect to the Autobot side, so why not the Autobot’s too? Afterburner has just the “rebel” streak that could lead to him switching sides. So the whole Miniconifferent Headsifferent Factions ‘thing’ could definitely come into play here. Maybe something like regular Afterburner is somewhere in the middle, and depending on what mood he’s in/head he has on, at any given time, he could be an Autobot or a Decepticon.

So…Crap…I gotta do this Minicon thing again…well…hmm…OK…after looking over all the old Micromasters, here’s what I got. First off, I’m going with the “mistake” in the first wave of Sideways released, where the faction symbols were swapped with the wrong Minicons/heads. That works out for me too, so I’m going with that one, where the (Crosswise) Minicon reveals the Autobot symbol, and the (Rook) Minicon reveals the Decepticon symbol. The white Minicon (Crosswise mold) would be Slide, and be his “Autobot Minicon”, and his Black Minicon (Rook mold) would be named Blackjack. I don’t think I’ll bother to name the combined mode, as this is pretty much good enough for me, heh.
