Description
A 'repaint' I did using Instructions for Armada Sideways downloaded from Hasbro's official Transformers website, [link]The third member of the “Gestalt Project” Protectobots is none other than Groove. Like many of the others, there really was no real choice to make in which mold to use, as Sideways is the only deluxe motorcycle mold in either line. (Besides I don’t think he’d much appreciate having Arcee’s body, heh.) Groove here, provided me with the very first case of the original toy I was paying homage too, having a very pronounced color variation. Some had large silver chests, while others had gold. More often then not, Groove is portrayed with the gold chest. I really wanted to use that version, but I just couldn’t get it to work on the mold unfortunately. In the end, I went with the silver variation, and I must say, it worked out much better that way. A definite homage to silver-chested Groove, heh. I’m pretty happy with how this one came out. It gave me a lot of trouble, but the end result was worth it.
Keeping in line with the Minicon=Micromaster thing, Groove’s two Minicons would be named Strikedown (the silver one; Crosswise mold) and Stakeout (the midnight blue one; Rook mold). I thought those were both good “police” sounding names for the two Minicons of this very Police Motorcycle. I think I’d even go ahead and name their combined form, but all the good “police” sounding Micromaster names are taken. I’m actually kind of partial to “Roadburner” for the combined form though. Oh, and I REALLY wanted to give these Minicons more paint apps, but I decided to stick to a pure “Armada Sideways” paint scheme from the beginning, and to be quite frank, his Arm Minicons paint job (or lack there of) totally sucked. D’ah well. That’s what I get for trying to be a purist…

I like the PD and FD idea associated with the different heads. It takes advantage of the gimmick, but changes it into something else that is cool.

Yeah me too, i just wish I could have had time to actually implimented it. I wanted to copy the likes of G1 Prowl and Red Alert/Inferno's emblums, but they were just so dated looking, not that I could find any good close-up pics of them anyways.

Eeeeeeeeeee! It's Groove!!!!!
My all-time fave Protectobot! And man does he ever look sweet! Even tho' you have him portrayed as a Decepticon counter-agent with Strikedown as the head, I'm gonna think of this head module as having a special array of nighttime detection equipment since there's no way in hell I'm ever gonna think of Groove as even being remotly a Deceti-creep... Even if he and Megatron share the same voice actor in the original cartoon.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on him being a double spy. I wanted to replace the bot/con symbols with maybe some different emergency symbols, maybe one that's a police badge, and the other maybe a fire/rescue one. I couldn't find any good pics of those stickers that came with the various police transformers, so I gave up on it, since i was already working on this one to the last minute. D'ah well.
And I'm glad you like it so much, but since you ARE such a huge fan of Groove, how do you feel about the gold/silver variant and me using the less popular silver one?

Well, you did use that gold color elsewhere on both the robot and vehicle mode, so that's at least something. The gold they use in the cartoon for the chest (and face) would have looked good as the color for the window/chest here, but that would also mean that the missiles/exaust vents would have been the same color.
On an actual toy, the misslies could have been painted over like they did for Energon Snow Cat's, but since you're more or less into 'cheating out' of plastic color trees by applying paint aps (the whole tire debate comes to mind), your repaint looks pretty fine and nifty the way it is.

Cool. I'm glad the silver version was acceptable. I originally had some of the 'hood' gold when i wanted to do the gold chest version (since it's the same piece) but it REALLY made it look cheap and crappy. Not to mention it wasn't very true to the g1 vehicle mode, who had NO gold at all.
Hell, I was tempted to completely chrome the missiles and windows, as that's actually a lot closer to the original then using clear plastics. The fact that Hasbro says they won't chrome anything anymore (even though they still do...WTF? Corona Sparkplug anyone?), not to mention that I can't do a convincing chrome, stopped me, heh.
