Description Another Avengers piece!

Everyone's favorite "genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist."

Iron Man introduced me to the entire franchise way back when it first came out. (Fours years ago?) RDJ = Tony Stark. They are the same person. I love him.

This was a fun piece to do--I knocked it out in 2 days because I had so much fun painting all those little lights. (Ignore my lazy background skillz). Hope you like it!

Reference from Iron Man 2.

Brilliant details and skin. I love the coloring and lighting.
Very well done.
The composition is well balanced and off centered. Very pleasing to the eye.

no problem! how did you make this!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

astarayel In reply to Stripes16 [2012-12-10 20:56:35 +0000 UTC]

I used Photoshop CS3, a reference from Iron Man 2, and a lot of patience! Just little strokes adding up over time.

Stripes16 In reply to astarayel [2012-12-10 20:59:45 +0000 UTC]

oh...i can never figure out how to do that i photoshop at school. im still learning how to use it which gets irritating cuz i cant figure out how to do what i want. >

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

astarayel In reply to Stripes16 [2012-12-10 21:10:34 +0000 UTC]

It takes a lot of practice. I recommend looking at a bunch of references and just starting from there. Sometimes it's "fake it till you make it." Also, there are a ton of great tutorials here on DA and YouTube that show different ways to approach digital painting. I've heard about a couple great books, too.

What gives you the most trouble?

Stripes16 In reply to astarayel [2012-12-11 19:57:04 +0000 UTC]

well, i dont really do alot of digital work because i only get access to photoshop when i'm in photo at school and i dont exactly have a tablet or anything to draw on the computer with at school. i have an ipad but it doesnt hook up to my mom's laptop as far as i know and i dont have a stylus pen to make it easier to draw on my ipad.. i pretty much just do traditional art for right now

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

astarayel In reply to Stripes16 [2012-12-11 21:27:55 +0000 UTC]

That's kind of rough. I think there are some good tablets out there for not too much money, if you ever felt like saving up for one!

Traditional is an excellent base for digital anyway, so you should definitely keep that up!

Stripes16 In reply to astarayel [2012-12-12 20:00:51 +0000 UTC]

i shall ...i asked for a tablet for drawing for christmas so hopefully i get one! i would love to be able to do work like this!

so what type of work do you like to do? ..i think i'm gonna go look at your gallery, its been so nice talking to you i just might watch you, if you're interested in being friends on deviantart..?

astarayel In reply to Stripes16 [2012-12-12 21:26:42 +0000 UTC]

I hope you do too! It helps a lot to have a tablet to enhance skills you build traditionally.

I love making new friends! And if you'd like to watch me, I'd really appreciate it. I love portraits, obviously. I'm trying to expand my abilities, but backgrounds are haaaaaaard.

i love making new friends as well! i shall watch you

i've always thought i suck at drawing people so lately for my art projects at school i've been doing people, i have gotten better but i still cant seem to get the faces to stop looking either deformed or nothing like my referance or the person i want to draw or what i have in mind, people are just extremely difficult for me, but i havent given up, i really want to get better cuz usually the drawings i come up with involve people.

astarayel In reply to Stripes16 [2012-12-13 01:15:10 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!!

It's hard to get those details in and all the proportions right. Have you tried using a grid to make it easier to measure the proportions? That's how I learned best and it's done wonders for me! People are hard to draw because we're so familiar with the way they look in general, it's obvious where we make the mistakes. Poke through my scraps and you'll see this horrifying portrait with a lopsided-faced woman.

haha you should see my drawings of people, they look deformed and blek! yes, i have used a grid to get the proportions right and it has done wonders for me too. i usually only use grids in my school projects.. yeah, detials sometimes irritate me so much cuz i cant get them right, like alot of details is what i usually try to avoid lol

no problem! you should watch me as well, that way we can continue to talk and give advice to improve our skills!
