Description I will keep updating this file. woohoo!
I also have Charon ---> fav.me/d91fyqf
You can use this map and share however you like.
Just remember, this was made with NASA/JPL/New horizons data. in case you live under a copyright rock.

CELESTIA USERS:
If you want Pluto to be facing Charon the correct way, you must change the position of the map on the horizontal position.
Simply open a paint program of your choice, then copy and paste the map so that the heart is split by the two right and left sides of the
rectangle map, instead of the center. the heart should be facing away from Charon so it never sees it. No love for Charon! (i only have it offset wrong here, so that the HD tiles are in the center and easy to see, plus it is easier to update this way) its a ruff fix but it works, Charon is fine by the looks of things, don't worry about Charon.

##########################
UPDATE (July 20 2015)

i was thinking more the far left on the equator where the HD transitions to the old parts

Then there are two regions that are not perfect

There will always be something wrong, perfecting is impossible. what is wrong with the upper right of the heart? = o

That area is to dark compared to the regions around (or all the rest is to bright).

When are you going to resume your work on this map?-just curious

I have the new areas projected and i just nee to do some planetary surgery to get them to fit with the HD rest. Though i have been busy searching for a job and working on other art projects lately so Pluto has been put off to the side for a bit. it should come out soon though

I think the albedo in Tombaugh regio is to low. It should be brighter.

Astra-Planetshine In reply to Renerpho [2015-10-31 07:48:31 +0000 UTC]

yeah i have to boost the contrast of Pluto, so the lighter areas are brighten and the darker ones are darker. i have just been so busy with other art projects lately and haven't gotten around to it yet

Renerpho In reply to Astra-Planetshine [2015-11-02 18:30:42 +0000 UTC]

Not only that. The "heart" should be brighter than the polar region.

Could you please improve the resolution of Pluto's eastern hemisphere by using these images:
pluto.jhuapl.edu/soc/Pluto-Enc…

pluto.jhuapl.edu/soc/Pluto-Enc…
Could you also clean up the mess in Krun macula?

Great map!

Some comments:
1. Are these some mountains far in the south, under Cthulhu regio? I can not find images that show that part of surface...
2. There seems to be a mismatch between the two ends of the map.
3. The angle changed a little between this map and your last, resulting in some "new" features above these two large craters over Cthulhu regio. Are these real?

What is central longitude? Close to 0, but not exactly 0, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Astra-Planetshine In reply to Renerpho [2015-09-29 21:40:57 +0000 UTC]

thanks!

yes they are viable here. www.nasa.gov/sites/default/fil…

I know. You have to remember that it gets to be harder and harder with more resolution, and Pluto isn't a perfect sphere when i project it. i can adjust it on the next one if its really that much of a bother.

If you go back 4 maps too they will be at slightly different angles. I dont exactly have NASA orientation or angle data to get it perfect to every pixel, i have no choice but to eyeball the maps as best as i can.

It depends on what you define as "0" all i know is the heart faces away from Charon.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Renerpho In reply to Astra-Planetshine [2015-09-30 12:05:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It's ok for now.

Prime meridian ("0") is defined as the point facing away from Charon. You can use an official map like this (pluto.jhuapl.edu/Multimedia/Sc… ) as a reference.

This is looking fantastic! Congrats on this getting on Wikipedia. That's kinda cool.
I don't think you need to make this image any bigger either. It's big enough already.

yes its from Hubble pictures. though its so pour quality lol. it will be a bit useful for if they do ever make out the far side of Pluto though.

I really love your work and this is a great map but I think you could make some improvements to the brass knuckles area.

There are better images of Krun and Ala maculae available, like the image you suggested a few days ago.
And there are also processed NH images that could be used: twicsy.com/i/MVm8wi

OK, true.
Together with the images released today (like www.nasa.gov/sites/default/fil… ), snowfall-the-cat will have MUCH to do!

Astra-Planetshine In reply to Renerpho [2015-09-26 21:10:47 +0000 UTC]

I try not to use prepossessed images for pluto. the best raw is all i have to work with. i might take some colour from it though.
and i updated with that new huge picture

Robi777 In reply to Astra-Planetshine [2015-09-26 22:13:26 +0000 UTC]

You're right, its best to use the original images.
And the map looks great with this new update, especially because you filled in the rest with Hubble data. Keep up the good work!

(I only made a quick map; longitude doesn't match)
