Bitumen didn't Reynolds use bitumen and it did bad things to his paintings? I'm not sure if that is true i vaguely remember something about him experimenting and people finding the oil paint coming off the canvas.
Was there a reason you used it, just being nosey.
And after all that nice work are per usual.

It was just an experiment. I used it when I was at Uni and a kept a piece that I liked and after 15 years it is still okay. I think I have read that it darkens lights over time, but I have decided its too toxic, it takes your breath away and I was uncomfortably high for hours. I was reminded of the medium when I saw work which I really love.

Reminds me of my little moppet head at home. What a sensitive portrait. The warm tones in the cheek make it for me. BTW, I'm trying out the oils, but it's going at a glacial pace. I imagine it gets a bit faster with experience. How long did this portrait take?

thanks for your comment. You should do very well with oils, this one only took 1 1/2 hours, it was more of a sketch but I liked it as it was and left it alone. Normally would take me (miss perfectionist) a lot longer.
