ARTWORK STATEMENT

“ FOR CALLIOPI “

This painting is dedicated to my friend Calliopi who passed away last Oct 2015.

She courageously fought cancer for many years. Her mother died from cancer when Calliopi was only two years of age, her sister also died from cancer.

Calliopi loved cats and butterflies. She always wished to transform into a beautiful butterfly, which she finally did. Unfortunately when caterpillars/pupas metamorphosis into a butterfly their lifespan is short.

I will always cherish her memory and let it live on. Whenever I see a butterfly I think of Calliopi (this may be her saying hello).
