This is a nice painting and you've done a good job on the majority of the portrait. I really like how you've captured the lighting and the way it reflects in his eyes and makes his whiskers 'glow'.
Without seeing the reference photo/the cat in this pose, it's hard to tell for sure, but judging by your other portraits I would say that his nose is a bit too big and 'heavy' on his face. You should be able to see one of his nostrils from this angle, however this hasn't been clearly defined and unfortunately gives the nose a rather blob-like appearance. I think that this also has the unfortunate effect of making the pink of his ear look a bit heavy, drawing attention away from his pretty eyes. I believe that the addition of a nostril would balance this out and bring the whole painting together and the focus back to his eyes without having to make any further changes to his inner ear.
I really like the textures you've created in the fur, especially between his lower eye and ear - the colours you've used are perfect and as a whole this makes a really nice pet portrait e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Thankyou very much for your constructive critique. I had a look at the nose and I agree with your observation. The painting has sold so I cannot correct it. This is a very small work 3.5 inch (80mm) square and it would not be as obvious. I have a TV screen for my monitor and it looks like an ENORMOUS error. When I photograph my miniatures I usually can see any errors and then keep fiddling with them. It is not easy using oil and 2 hairs in a brush, one slip and its wrong

Very nice! I think it captures the personality of a very inquisitive cat.
I like the detail that you have put into this. I do a few animal paintings myself, so I understand the amount of effort put into this to make it seem so life-like.
Very nice on the lighting. I might suggest that you make the eye that is in the light a bit more translucent; it may give the painting an even better look.
I like the technique you used on the inner ear, as well. Often times, animal ears can be a bit tricky to get "just right", and I think your technique solves this very well.
