Thankyou for taking the time to make this wonderful critique, very much appreciated. This is an older work which I have kept in my own collection and your comment about the sky is possible correct but at this point I have moved on and I will leave it as it is. Thanks again

I don't know why, but this picture feels like home ... it makes me happy and wistful at the same time.
I love it how you show the freckels, wrinkels and the hair. Like I could touch those ladies, like they are really there behind the display.
It's amazing.

I adore this one. Reminds me of my grandma and her sister-in-law. They used to huddle together like that and visit

You've captured the emotion perfectly. After reading the description I think it really portrays this. I've been thinking of trying a portrait in oil. Do you let the paint dry much in between or does it help with blending if you don't?

AstridBruning In reply to Martenator [2011-01-22 07:56:22 +0000 UTC]
Thanks for your comment. I paint slowly and detailed in thin layers and by the time I have finished a certain area the other section is usually dry. The problem arises when the paint becomes tacky (nearly dry) and you cannot blend, then you do need to wait for it to dry. If you work thin is doesnt take long, a day or two, depends on the weather or how much white is used. (some colours dry faster than others) Hope that helps
