I don't think so, it has too much atmosphere, that hazy effect you've achieved that you wouldn't get with a photo,and it's always fun to look at the detail.

thanks, I did have to make up the background as the photo I had taken had too many distractions. I had an art judge tell me that this painting was just a form of copying and didn't find it very artistic. The winning painting was an abstracted landscape so he did have a bias.

Just a bit,I had someone once comment on my paintings as "cut and paste", that same person then commissioned me to paint her kids. She did a lot of abstracts and basically couldn't paint a likeness!Or maybe I'm just being bitchy!?

I think you are right, maybe the people criticising cannot paint realistically. I do like contemporary art as well, I did a BA in Visual Arts and it was basically conceptual,but you need a degree to understand it.
I think there is a place for all types of art, I just dont like being criticised for my "style".

I agree, I've no problem with it all, the more verity the better,the only criteria is that it's sincere which with conceptual you can never know!!
