Description

The tricky thing

Is yesterday we were just children

Playing soldiers, just pretending

Dreaming dreams with happy endings

In backyards, winning battles with our wooden swords

But now we've stepped into a cruel world

Where everybody stands and keeps score

Everybody's waiting for you to breakdown
Everybody's watching to see the fallout
Even when you're sleeping, sleeping
Keep your eyes open

So here you are, two steps ahead and staying on guard
Every lesson forms a new scar
They never thought you'd make it this far
But turn around, oh they've surrounded you
It's a showdown and nobody comes to save you now
But you've got something they don't
Yeah you've got something they don't
You've just gotta keep your eyes open

Keep your feet ready
Heartbeat steady
Keep your eyes open
Keep your aim locked
The night goes dark

~ 'Eyes Open' by Taylor Swift

Some nights had passed since that day. When she had committed a treason worse than anything she could have done before. Been tackled and dragged away unconscious. Unfortunately Pamela had woken from that quiet darkness. Woken to find herself in a different kind of darkness. The darkness of a cell deep in the ground away from the sun and any possibility of freedom. A heavy chain around her neck that only left her a small circle to walk in. Awaiting her fate at the hands of her cities leaders.

Of course with such a fight came the wounds and blood loss with it. They hadn't bothered to treat her wounds. Most of them were superficial but still painful. She had been limited in her food and water too. Most likely they were too disgusted with her to bother much. So, she took care of herself. Cleaned her wounds best she could and washed as much blood out of her fur as possible with the limited water she didn't need to survive. For the first time in her life, truly alone and with no one to save her. Away from her home and owners. She didn't know where Lorna was, her owner probably unable to accept what her lovely tigress had done.

Now, she shivered on the cold stone floor. Cold seeping into her bones from the stones below. But still her wounds burned. A fever had settled into her body as they healed. She wasn't a healer or doctor but they didn't appear infected to her. Maybe it was the shock combined with the abnormal amount of pain? She wasn't used to it that was for sure. The world was miserable and bleak to the tigress. But, she held on to what little she could. Surprisingly that was the stories she had heard from Ophelia. The life her sister had outside of the city walls. A life Pamela had rejected more than once, now seemed so sweet. Her mind wandered through the memories of her sisters words. Coming to wonder what her life would have been like if she had left with Ophelia that night so many years ago. The night that had potentially led her right to this place. She had denied her nature and family in favor of comfort and safety. Such choices had consequences. She had betrayed everything about herself and left her sister alone to fight in the wild. Now the situation had been turned on her. Everything she had loved had betrayed her or she had betrayed it and now she was the one left all alone. Now all she could do was let the fever take her imagination to vivid version of what her life could have been.

Leaving home that night like she was supposed too and meeting Ophelia in the forest. Of finding her way to Fire empire together. Standing proudly next to her sibling as they became apprentices. Learning together and spending nights with other apprentices talking and laughing. Meeting a mentor and finding some of their family outside those walls. Becoming an aunt alongside Ophelia to her brothers three cubs. Making friends and lifelong bonds with a giant family she could have never dreamed of. Knowing her sister would have never suffered such heart break and separated herself from others if Pamela had only been there for her.

Of walking into that War against the hunters side by side to look after one another. Maybe she would have been able to keep her sister safe for once. So she would never have walked in to that coliseum to find her sibling shivering, beaten in a cage. They would never have argued about the lives they led. Pamela would have never felt like her sister had moved on and found a new family. Never felt so out of place in Fire Empire that she had chosen to leave and come back to the city.

She would have watched fall in love and been there to comfort her when it fell through. Stood at her sisters should as they lost and gained friends. Even been there to welcome her sisters new adopted cubs that she had only ever met once in her life so far before they had been lost. Helped her sister care for them and been the aunt they would have loved to have. Been proud to see Ophelia make the rank of Patrol Chief.

She would have been there for fight with her sister when Fire Empire fell, helping protect the family Ophelia had built. Maybe she could have helped save the young Tidepool. Or even helped Ophelia through the arguments she had with her remaining cubs. Perhaps she might have been able to stop Ophelia from falling so deeply into despair and anger.

No matter what happened, it all would have worked out okay because they were with each other. Always able to pick the other up and protect them when they were weak.

But now, none of that could happen. She had missed the chance. It seemed like, after all this, she would never get the chance again.

Pamela spends some time alone in a cell after her attack on the humans. Alone and forced to make do with what she can, the shock and pain (Both physical and metal) get to her and results in a fever that leaves her weak and delusional. Thinking back on what life could have been if she made different choices. But, Pamela doesn't mind. At least she can imagine the good memories she might have had while she waits for whats to come. Her memories of the city tainted by the things she had done. Unable to think of the humans she had loved and the few friends she had made. So, she lets her imagination take her to far away places instead.

GOD I LOVE THIS PICTURE! I had this idea for like 2 weeks now and I could not get it to work. BUT finally I did and can I say I am very happy with how it turned out!
