Another Illustrator CS5 Gradient Mesh portrait, this time of Davie Bowie. I actually started this one about a month ago and finally had time to actually finish it. It probably took about 60 hours...Tools:

How did you achieve the skin texture in Illustrator, specifically the skin pores?
I know that's possible in Photoshop (e.g., skin texture brushes), but I'm not aware of a way of doing this in Illustrator (outside of pasting in a raster image or raster texture and masking it off).

The skin texture is just part of a really complex mesh. If you download the full view, you'll see how hackey it really is...

Hackey!? There are plastic surgeons who could only dream of being able to reconstruct faces as accurately as you do. I swear if I look long enough I can actually see whiskers growing on this one.

You're great indeed. The way you make the skin texture's awesome. But, I see there's something weird with his eye balls.
Correct me if I'm wrong..

Sorry, but I have run out of superlatives. There is way more detail in your rendering than the original source material. Did the photographer supply you with a raw file to work off or do you create the textures and details yourself? Either way, the finished result is simply startling.
