Description For those of you curious to see how I Mesh out some of my details, I figured I'd throw one of my smaller .ai files out there for those who are interested (the more detailed ones get to 200 Mb or so). It's much easier than trying to put together a tutorial and I think artist learn more from exploring rather than following instructions.

It was created in CS5 using some features not available in earlier versions of Illustrator, so I have no idea what it would look if you attempt to open it in CS4 or lower.

Do what you want with the file as long as it stays on DA and completely Free . If you create something new with it, drop me comment and link the work to my page.

Thanks!

It's very cool of you to offer this file up to the public. I've always wanted to get into G Mesh work and now with your file I'll be able to learn how to do it. Thanks

It opens in CS3.
However, I have no idea what I'm looking at.
There is no way I can even begin to analyze it.
Maybe a simpler mesh art (like a ball, lol) will help me but not this.
At least I know this is awesome and I thank you.

i was attempting a g-mesh portrait a while back but ended up getting frustrated and quitting since it wouldn't do what i wanted it to. It's nice to see how someone else attacked it. Will definitely be trying a few things differently next time.

Thanks

The GMesh tool takes a while to get used to.

A Quick Tip: Stay away from the Pen Tool to create your shapes. Use a basic shape (I use a rectangle for everything) and then Warp it into the shape you want with a Mesh Point in the center. That way you know exactly where the other points are going to fall in when you start adding detail.

Thanks for the tip. That was actually one of the main problems i was having. That, and i was trying to use 2 or 3 meshes for the entire thing.

My computer can't really handle it either. I work on several different files and paste them all together at the end...
