Description
ATC, 6 x 9 cm.First, I painted the little ammonite-critter-type-thingy in watercolour. I then cut out the painting, and riveted it to a thin sheet of copper with eyelets.
The copper was laboriously aged and made interesting by the ever-fabulous *hogret , who very kindly allowed me to swipe some.
This card is the first in a series of weird sea-critters.

so beautiful
I love the pattern you draw on the shell and the copper backing is fabulous with it maybe you could have ripped the paper instead of cutting it, it would look more natural and sea-like me thinks

you're welcome
I love to rip paper or use kozo paper (like mulberry paper) I love the natural look of those papers
I'm looking forward to that series

I just love that paper it's see-through and it's nerved with fibres, normally it's off-white coloured but it comes in lots of pre-dyed colours. I buy the off-white and colour it with watercolours
you can use it for decoupage for atc or as a background, did I mention I'm a fan
I'd love to send you a piece, so you can try it out
you kind of know me already yes please, a seahorsey just for me
after dragonflies they're my most favourite creatures on this planet, well and cats too

Ooo it sounds so yummy! Thank you - you're so good to me
That would be super awesome
One seahorsey just for you coming right up! I also love them. They're so pretty and delicate.
I saw a tankful of them at the aquarium once - it was just magical.

ok, luckily I haven't sent the atc yet so it comes with that
so I don't feel that bad that it isn't already on its way
'coming right up' isn't that a dinner-phrase? I want my seahorsey well done please *muuhaahaaaa
oh that I'd love to see, a tank full of seahorses they're really magical, floating and serene

Hehe, no worries! I'll be ready to welcome it when it arrives. No rush.
Well done seahorsey! I'll do my best
It was magical. I always forget how tiny they are until I see them in real life.

Very nice!
But I wish it were a bit more realistic. Your image looks like tentacles coming out of a spiral shell. In reality, a lot more of the ammonite could probably be seen outside of its shell - such as its large eyes. Check out pictures of the still-living nautilus to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
All that being said though, this is still a really nice and colorful fusion piece.

Thanks!
Yeah, I know it's not realistic I was in the mood for something vaguely abstract. I might look up some reference for the next one, though.

Blimey, I just had a look at the nautilus - that is one funny-looking little thing Too cute! Must paint.

Agreed! Now imagine HUGE ones, with buoyant shells several feet in length and massive amounts of tentacles. Those would be like prehistoric ammonites.

Beeeeeg seafood, they are!
I saw a picture once of a man standing next to an ammonite fossil even bigger than he was...
Dude, I'm glad I wasn't around to swim in prehistoric oceans

Same here, everything in prehistoric oceans was "super-sized" and of course, very very hungry.
