Description
This is an image from another shoot I did with the delightful and versatile Jennifer . (Those of you who are good at making connections might remember her as Mrs. Darling . Did I mention how versatile she is?While not, strictly speaking, part of my "Visions" project, it certainly does owe a heavy debt to my well-known artistic influences--the Victorian Classicists and pre-Raphaelites.
This was actually a rather impromptu image, as I was doing Jennifer a favor, shooting a couple of her friends. She was going to be assisting me on the shoot (she curled everyone's hair *beautifully*--and saved me TONS of time, in so doing!), and if we had time, we had an idea involving red crystal organza, her back, and some golden mirror garlands from Crate and Barrel, but our plans were rather loose, since I hadn't met the models before, and we knew time was going to be tight.
One of the other models wanted to wear a costume that I wasn't sure would work with her style...so I decided to reinforce the look of her costume by putting Jenn and the other model in hastily improvised costumes made from my stock of flesh-colored dance leotards and a bolt of scrim I had lying around. (The nice thing about scrim is it tears so beautifully...and then drapes, just as nicely as it tears!
The costumes turned out very nicely indeed--and the trio of ladies looked enchanting...but after shooting everyone together, I decided to do a brief set of just a few solo shots of each. This was one of Jenn's.
(And yes, I know I shouldn't have cut her hand off. My excuse is that I had already decided I was down--having gotten other images quite similar, which included her whole hand, thank you very much--and then as I was about to say "Okay, we're all set", she turned slightly and fell into this almost unconsciously, and I hastily told her to "HOLD IT!", and grabbed for my camera. I was so anxious not to lose her expression, that I forgot to double check her hand--and when I did, and realized I wanted a second shot, she'd already moved again, and the magic was gone. Live and learn, right?!

Isn't it a terrific look?! It's flirtatious...but very private, as well--kind of inaccessible. With a bit of "demure" over the top of it all. Yeah, definitely the sort of girl who could cause some serious trouble in a poor guy's life! I think you nailed it!

Well it makes me feel so the romantic angle has definitely worked in a big way.
I love romance. It kind of disappears as one gets older, going to have to make more effort.

Oh yes...you definitely need to make the effort for more of it! It's one of those things that makes life infinitely more enjoyable...even in tiny doses...
So glad to have added a wee bit of it to your day!

You're too much a perfectionist. The hand hardly registers in this image. It's all golden hair and serene smile. I checked for nipplage but that's really it. I wanna see the red organza one now!

Hehe...that's me, protecting myself against the well-meaning person (and there is always one--very often ME, if it comes to that! ) who wants to give me advice on how to make this picture better in the future. I figure this way I nip it in the bud (I don't need the advice--because I already know better!
)--without making it look as if I'm not giving enough weight to their helpfulness.
The hand DOES bother me--but not so much that I don't think it's a lovely image, regardless. (I do look forward to the day, though, when I don't HAVE to be bothered by small things like that! )
And nope--sorry, no nipplage whatsoever--as she's chastely wrapped up in a nude dancer's leotard. (Which was, actually almost *exactly* the color of her skin--it only needed the tiniest tweaking to blend it perfectly!) I removed the one strap you could see--but otherwise, it blends in nicely...and does a nice job of "airbrushing" away the naughty bits.
Alas! We never did get to the red organza one! That'll have to be a project for another day...but I'm sure I'll share, when it's done!

Thanks, Sweetie--I appreciate it! I'll tell you--I was really scrambling, mentally, for to try to figure out a way to make this shoot work--so it's good to hear it worked out!

Oh, pish tosh!
Here, brat--you can check out ALL the versions, if you like: start here: [link] and keep clicking "Next" until you reach the end of 'em. (Nothing else of interest in that gallery--it's just "reference" shots of models I'm planning working with, trying on various costumes.)
Satisfied?
Sheesh. SOME people!!!

I love how you combined two tones here, blue and green, with their repetitions in the model's eyes , the costume and the background. By the way, the background looks here as if it was the blurred depth of the water...

Athansor In reply to Sarachmet [2008-01-19 17:30:22 +0000 UTC]
It's funny you should say that about the water...because I did a variation on it, called "Triton's Daughter": [link] Great minds, eh?

not necessarily for a nymph or siren...oh, I know that 'written"'s not a propper word here, my poor English...

Doh--good point! (But I think that "written" was the correct word...I just wasn't thinking of her being a water elemental and it being natural for her! You got me!
)

Gorgeous image. I love the warmth she radiates against the cool blue of the background --which really brings out the blue of her eyes and almost crystallizes them. The pose is fabulous and I really think the colors play nicely against each other. And don't worry about the hand.

Thanks! I really am in love with Jenn's peaches and cream skin--it's just heavenly to work with! (And yeah, her eyes are terrific. She's the sort of girl where at first you see her and think, "Oh yeah, blonde, blue-eyed, pretty"--but don't give it much thought. But if you look at her a second time--and REALLY look at her--you start to find her really compelling, because of the intelligence in her face, the strength of character in her bones, the warmth of her coloring, and the overall sweetness you see there.)
Plus, she's just SUPER easy to work with--and holds even uncomfortable poses easily, and without complaint. Ya gotta love that!

Beautiful (as always, my dear)! She makes me think of Titania!
And the colours work very well (her hair against the light greens of the material and head garland). As for the hand, you tend to focus more on her pretty face anyway (and where her other hand is), so I never gave it a second thought.

You're the second person who's mentioned Titania--I guess I should've called this something like "Titania's Bower"! (I never WAS too thrilled with "Reverie", come to think of it! )
Somehow I'm not surprised that you like the colors, though...blues and greens...hmmm...that seems to be a theme for you--and me, both, now that I think of it!
