Description
Still another image from my ongoing "Visions" project--and exploration of photographic art, inspired by the pre-Raphaelites and Victorian classicists, as well as fairy tales, folk tales and poetry. This image features the marvelously versatile and talented Jennifer, whose modeling portfolios can be found at: [link] and at [link] . You can view more of here here, as Mrs. Darling and in Reverie .
This shoot had a rather loosely interpreted Renaissance theme...and this particular image shows off not only the lovely Jenn, but also a very cool "scroll" that I spent two nights making, a couple of days before the shoot. (Two wooden dowels, a pad of tracing paper, tape, and watered down burnt sienna.
I freehanded some interesting scrollies on the fabric, and then spent a couple of days embroidering them in warm shades of gold, scarlet and green. I hadn't embroidered since I was 10. I remembered why, while working on this!
I thought of calling this "The Poetess"--for that's what she is, of course, but as I worked on it, I somehow knew the character's name was Isabella...and that she wasn't writing just anything...but dreams...wonderful dreams.
Enjoy!

Thank you! This is actually one of my very favorite models...and there's hardly a shot in our entire shoot that I didn't think worthy of a fine art treatment. This particularly one was one of her choices--but one of these days, I'm going to go back and work on a few more, from the same shoot. It's just that picking, will be so hard...

I impressed with your photography and equally impressed with the work you put into staging a photo shoot. Well done...
Question: Is Jenn left handed or is the pen in her left hand to improve the composition?

Thank you again--and that is an EXCELLENT question! Jenn's right handed...I moved the pen for compositional purposes, as you no doubt suspected.
I always think about it, when I see the image, because I'm not sure if the slight disorientation it causes is worth the improved composition...but there's not much I can do about it after the fact!

What is money for, if not buying things? What are rooms for, if not filling? Granted, I could do with more money and more room, but that's another point entirely

I thought this might have been a manipulation or a painting but it's a photograph! My goodness, how beautiful. I really can't give you a critique because I honestly don't know what I could do better or at least different. Maybe not quite so heavy with the texture but even having said that, this image wouldn't be the same without it. Gorgeous!

Athansor In reply to Renilicious [2008-03-09 22:48:15 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I know just what you mean, about the texture! (Although oddly, I did several variations of this, with even heavier textures--almost looking abstract--and liked them quite well, too! ) I like this version best...but would've been happy if I could've found a better way to have gotten that "old painting, found in a dusty attic" feel, with a lighter textural touch. Just didn't quite manage it though. Still--I sometimes think you learn more through the images that were "almost" right--than through the ones that worked out perfectly...
(And for the record--with the exception of one image in my gallery, done as a gift for a stock artist here, all my images are actual photographs--my own. (Although often with textures added to them.)
I don't have enough imagination to add extra elements in, the way so many talented photomanipulators here, do! )

You got all the elements you needed within a single photograph, I would kick small baby kittens to be able to have the resources to do something like that. You certainly captured the aged feel with the texture and I immediately thought of the paintings I saw while I was in the UK. And thank you very much for the compliment on my Falada manip.

You are always welcome to paint anything of mine that you see--I always love to see how traditional artists reinterpret my vision!
And the wardrobes are mostly mine...although some are provided by clients. I have this BIG closet that's bulging with costumes I've collected, and two big chests that are full of fabrics that I can use for "improvising" costumes, when I need to.
