Description
I've been dying to draw one of ~roleychiu 's beautiful photographs, and he graciously allowed me to draw one of my favs, this beautiful model: [link]Around 2-3 hours, using mechanical pencils with HB and 2B lead. There's no "background" because this was just a personal sketch done for my own enjoyment and growth; didn't have a lot of time to spend on the background.
I keep all WIPs in my scraps.
Here's the WIP of this drawing: [link] I took a digital photo every 15 minutes or so.

I always start out by doing all my shading with crosshatching. On some works I leave it that way, on others, I may gently go over my pencil with a soft sable brush, just to blend a little. Sometimes I'll use a chamois, sometimes a bit of tissue, sometimes a little bit of tortillion. I never, of course, use my finger unless it's just a sketch I don't care about, like if I'm sketching on a bus in a notebook or something. I don't believe "smudging" is bad as long as it's done carefully and in the right way. This was just a sketch, and sometimes when I'm not feeling like spending a lot of time on something (like this one, which was just done for fun) I'll just grab some tissue and rub away (like I did on her cheek) and guess what, I don't like how her cheek turned out. So sometimes blending can work against your piece if you're not careful :3

Well, try drawing all kinds of ways until you settle on what YOU like to do. You can draw with mud if that's what you want to use, and smear it with a toothbrush! Art is art. So try all kinds of suggestions, even your teachers, but don't view much as a real rule or law - do what you end up feeling is right for you

No worries. I just hate it when I hear a teacher telling a student "this is wrong/this is right" It's art! We should be exposed to all kinds of ways of drawing/painting then choose what works for us!

Well I think she should have fun drawing BOTH. The more styles and ways you can learn, the better. Tell her not to give up anime completely - The world needs ALL styles of art!

This is a wonderful drawing. Such fabulous detail, and great shading and contrast. The blonde hair is magnificent in its highlights and shades. I really like the wristbands and the highlights you put on them. It's very realistic, and very well done. Keep up the good work.
