Graphite, sketch paper, 4 hours. Found this photo [link] of Alicia Keys in a magazine. Thought it was pretty, decided to sketch it. Did so on rough paper, when I'm used to smooth, and it wasn't working out like I'd have liked, so I gave up on the hair 1/2 way through. I am not particularly pleased with the results. I do appreciate everyone else liking her, though! Thanks guys!NOTE: This sketch is now in the Private Collection of =OchreJelly .

curious... in what way are you not satisfied with the sketch, to me looks close to a photograph without having seen the original reference.

Oh, I'm not happy with it at all; I rushed it. I'm going to re-do it, you'll see, it'll be MUCH better, more detailed and more realistic.

The hair is amazing!!! What sort of graphite pencils do you use?

I tend to mostly use mechanical pencils, HB and 2B. This was a rough sketch done with 2B and 4B wood pencils.

Looks fantastic. Do you ever up the contrast in Photoshop, or is this how it naturally looks on paper?

I always color correct my scans but the darks are always as dark as I draw them, I normally don't do anything too fancy in Photoshop.
