Description This is one of my most favorite oekaki. I was sick of drawing on the Junior board, my stuff kept zipping to page 20 in moments. So I posted on the Senior board for the first time, and I'm relieved to say they liked it and kept it. (If you oekaki, you know how scary cool that is, wondering if you're "good enough" for the Senior Room!)

Thank you! I saw the photo in a book of stock images and I loved it so much I had to oekaki it right away. If you've ever oekakied you know what a challenge it is by itself, so to do this photo in that medium was a good artistic stretch for me and I've always been proud of this silly little thing!

Re: oekaki, it's Japanese for "doodle", but here, please read my journal on the subject, it's just a couple of paragraphs [link] I bet you'd be GREAT at oekaki!!!

MLBOA In reply to AthenaTT [2006-11-19 16:53:04 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately I don't use photoshop! But thanks for the link!

AthenaTT In reply to MLBOA [2006-11-20 01:16:44 +0000 UTC]

Oekaki isn't Photoshop (that's what makes it hard). Like I said in my journal, Java programs called PaintBBS and OekakiBBS are what you use to make an oekaki. They are very basic pixel programs and are free, but you don't download them, you use them on the oekaki board you sign up with. Visit my oekaki board links in my journal and you'll see what I'm talking about. People who DO use Photoshop sometimes find oekaki very hard because it takes talent, not a program like Photoshop which has lots of tools, to create an oekaki.

SO U do use digital after all!!!!! my bad ^_^ fantastic!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AthenaTT In reply to ukitakumuki [2004-02-08 23:11:11 +0000 UTC]

I spend my every waking moment using Photoshop for my work, doing everything digitally. Of course, my photomanip stuff is all for boring products, not gorgeous illustrations like yours. And certainly I never get the chance to use Photoshop or Painter to create work that resembles oils or other traditional work (like you do) so at the end of the day I simply long to do traditional works and get off the computer, you know? HowEVER, I was obsessed for quite awhile with oekaki (which this is) and the way that you had to create all your work with just a few basic tools (it's like using MSPaint or Photoshop 1 or something) so I'm actually quite proud of my oekaki work because it reflects the artist, not the tools, you know? But I'm itching to do a Painter project real soon... it's on my list, it's on my list LOL

ukitakumuki In reply to AthenaTT [2004-02-08 23:17:48 +0000 UTC]

mahahha im sure its on ur loong list ;p many projects are on my list as well.. haha!

i apologise why not push photoshop a lil to try it? this piece is exactly what i might have done, cept i wouldve added many darker shades and brighter highlights

i would love to see a landscape by u

AthenaTT In reply to ukitakumuki [2004-02-08 23:29:31 +0000 UTC]

What are you apologizing for, sweetie? You're just encouraging me in a right direction, and I appreciate it Oekaki is hard, have you ever done it? No, wait, you'd probably master it in 5 minutes, you've got the digital gift. Most of the time, you have to do it all at once and submit it right away. So I couldnt spend any more time futzing with this piece and had to submit it. But I'd love to go back and do it with Photoshop or Painter, where I could work on it awhile, close it, go back later, work on it some more. I'll at it to "the list."

I've done oil and watercolor landscapes, but never a digital one. I'll give it a try someday, I promise. Ah, damn it, another thing to add to the list !!!!!! LOL
