Honestly I think the actual picture is nice, but the real beauty is in the drawing. One thing with a photo is, it's like trying to capture a moment and cementing it with a hard copy image later to be refrenced. My impression is that good photographer tries to get the right lighting and right facial expression to convey a moment or feeling. In this case it's all about the artist and their technique, their attention to detail. There tedious forming of lines and flows shading and everything else to compose a drawing. You had to create the mood, had to create the lighting and also try to convey certain feelings or an aura. The hair is my favorite part and made me see what I missed in the photograph. It had a soul on it self.

so few people treat drawing with a pencil as a true art anymore. It's really great to see someone out there taking the time to "fine tune" this art. I'm super impressed...this is a really nice drawing, in so many ways. It's a great use of the medium...a really nice composition...just a great piece. As a sculptor i've moved further and further away from using pencil for anything other than a basic sketch- but you've inspired me to reconsider this. Congrats on a really great piece (i don't give pats on the back often- i'm arrogant, as a result i have to feel that i couldn't do something in order to be impressed by it- i don't want you to feel like i'm just leaving you one of those useless "hey, cool" posts)
