Description
Back from the dead.-Indech, treacherous fomorian general-
In Irish mythology, Indech is one of the fomorians, a mysterious race of monstrous sea-raiders who terrorized Ireland during ancient times. They had a complicated relationship with the Tuatha de Danaan, the pantheon of Irish gods, with sometimes the two races being in friendly terms, some even in romantic relationships, and others with both acting as fierce enemies. When the Tuatha Dé arrived in Ireland the fomorians were already in there for a long time, and so were a group of people called the Fir Bolg, who did battle with the gods. The Tuatha Dé emerged victorious, but at the cost of their king, Nuada, losing his arm, and alongside it, his right to rule his people. One of their warriors, Bres is chosen as their new king, but he ends up oppressing the Tuatha Dé, putting them under the rule of the fomorian tribe, humiliating them and asking huge amounts of tributes in their honor. Bres is eventually deposed and alongside with the help of Balor, the great fomorian king, he declares war on the Tuatha de Danaan, starting a long conflict between the two tribes. Indech was one of the kings working under Balor during the war and also the father of the fomorian Octriallach. During the war, the god Dagda approaches the fomorian camp hoping to delay their next conflict so that their troops have enough time to arrive on the battlefield. Their general, Indech, agrees to this, but with a condition. His subordinates dig an enormous hole in the ground and fill it with broth and meat, mocking the god's famous cauldron of plenty, said to be always filled with food. Indech demands Dagda to eat the entire thing or else he would be killed on the spot, which Dagda unexpectedly and gladly accepts. Using a spoon big enough to carry two people in it he devours all of the soup, compliments his enemies for how good it was and then takes a nap in front of the whole fomorian army. Having managed to secure the delay, Dagda returns to this camp not minding what transpired, but the goddess Morrígan promises to take Indech's heart in revenge for Dagda's humiliation.

The lesson of the story is that Dagda is a chad.
Long time no see you all!
I'm basically done with college at this point, and by extension, with the Irish mythology project I was doing there. There's actually only more drawing left to post here after this one. In the end it was judged best not to illustrate all the characters and focus on other aspects that needed to be done. Only the lesser fomorians were made, no Balor, no Lugh remake... Which is a big shame. Maybe someday I'll revisit this project, maybe not, for now I'm just glad to have finished it.
Indech, as with most of the other fomorians, is a pretty obscure figure, so once again I had nothing to use as reference. In some tales however the fomorians are described as only having one arm and one leg. Going by the animal motif I picked the snake for Indech since he's a pretty treacherous guy, and since snakes have neither arms nor legs... Mix the two concepts together and here we are.
Well, only one more to go now. Hope you all liked it, and until next time!

Great picture!
I was wondering if I can propose you something. Actually I'm working as developer in a little indie group in an Android game called "Kingdoms of Myth", it's turn based strategy game based on a fantasy World. You can find a little bit more info in this rough website made by my colleges lifeisinfinity.eu5.org/infinit… (Sorry for the bad English). We have liked your art and we would like to ask you if you want to collaborate with us making one fantasy picture. The theme of the picture would be very opened, so you are not going to be forced to draw nothing that you do not want to. Of course you will have full credits of your work and link to your webpage if you want . What do you think?
Lot of thanks for your time
P.D: By the way we just created now a Facebook with more recent pictures: www.facebook.com/kingdomsofmyt…

Thanks a lot for the offer, but sorry, I think I'll pass.
Best of luck on your endeavors though! Hope everything works out!

Really creative design ! It's so funny to see that SMT IV Apocalypse's Dagda has a nihilistic personality completely opposed to his "bon vivant" nature in the original myths XD
So glad to know you're back, with more free time ! I've been rather productive since last time, but now I'm in the middle of a time consuming internship
Still working on a "hot" girl currently, though

Thanks a bunch buddy, glad you liked it!
Each passing day I'm more convinced they had written his character first and then had to find a god who fit that role later, and then failed miserably doing it.
I guess "ginger santa who eats a lot" wouldn't really pass off as a cool demon for their target audience either.
Yeah, I'm kinda in the same boat.
I finished college but now I have my work to deal with, so it's not like I have that much more free time compared to before. But still, compared to this last year, this is certainly an improvement.
Oh my, a fire goddess perhaps? I'm currently working on a very pissed lesser-god with three heads and six arms.

As Eirikrjs said, they could have taken Pluto (or Cronus, I don't clearly remember) instead. He even did a montage where he took Dagda, made his hair grey, and replaced the triskellion with Pluto's sign XD
A fire goddess you actually did in the past, my friend
Oh shit is that an Asura ?!

Yup. Probably it would still feel a bit weird and disjointed but I can definitely see an enbittered Cronus having a SMT4A Dagda-like personality and some trust issues
Hmmmm... Are you finally coloring Pele's art?
Oh shit, busted!

Yep, Pele is on the fire XD I just need to finish working on the smoke (and like the lava and the crater, it's a challenge, something new to me) !
It happens that on my "preparatory sketches to do" list, an Asura is next in the Hindu section

Baby steps, baby steps.
Currently struggling with Asura's musculature, pose and anatomy... Only to realise I don't have a lot of ideas of what to dress him with. He's looking angry and scary alright, but a bit boring on the clothing department.
On the hindu section I was planning for a lotus-themed Lakshmi design.
Recently I discovered that Bhramari was a thing and now I want to draw her as well.

I've been working on her for 2 weeks
Haaa, I understand. My Hecatoncheire took a long time to be made, too (though I decided to duplicate some of his arms in Photoshop at the last minute before coloring ), so now I think I've done the worst in terms of multiple-armed entities XD I'm thinking about giving my Asura some body paint like some Hindu priests have. You know, those three lines representing the three levels of reality, something like that
By the way, I recently realized that Strange Journey's Asura kinda looks mesoamerican, maybe because of the clothes and the colorful body paint !
I struggled with Maya's outfit, too. It's one problem Hindu (and Egyptian) deities have : they tend to wear the same clothes So your idea for Lakshmi is well thought
Wow, a Hindu goddess of bees ? Not thinking about doing her but, damn, that's original !

I've been working on Asura for over a month now, it's been a troubled development
...I also have a Viracocha and a Nyarlathotep which are abandoned for over a year now...
I also cheated a lot on my Octopunch drawing, and I'm already thinking about doing the same with some of Asura's parts...
But there's a lot of things way worse than the Hecatoncheires my friend.. What about Guanyin?.... Or what about Vishvarupa?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishvaru…
Take a moment to let this image soak in.
I was wondering if the body paint was also a reference to something, I certaintly didn't find anything similar to it while researching for my Asura... Guess Kaneko just based it around some aesthetic he liked. :/
Yeah, no kidding. So many similar-looking tunics, motifs, jewelry and so on...

I understand these struggles... I'm currently preparing Sojobo's design, and the first sketch is...meh But I'll try another pose, and maybe change a few elements. I could just draw him sitting, like in many of his depictions, but I'd like to keep this kind of pose for Yanluo Wang (or Yama, or King Enma...)
I meant... among the beings that I'm planning to do But Vishvarupa is just pure madness ! By appearing to mortals, it would have the same effects as friggin' Azathoth !

He's usually draw always in a similar sitting pose, so I assume that to make him stand out a little more you should just try focusing on the tengu aspects. He's not always portrayed with the long nose, but why not? If you're going to include it in the design, make it as long as you possibly can!

DoctorChevlong In reply to AtmaFlare [2019-08-29 05:58:33 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, for tengu people, the nose is a hint at the power level, so for now it's just a bit longer than my Yamabushi Tengu's, but when I'll be done with the clothes, I'll try to stretch it more XD
I also thought about giving him a kanmuri instead of the tokin worn by his people, but... I didn't like it in the end, so I just gave him a bigger tokin
It's funny how Sojobo is never portrayed with wings, or the red skin that Yamabushi Tengu generally have... What if he was just some holy man pretending to be a tengu, since the beginning XD ?
