Description
We did Tiamat last week, and another dragon this time. It's dragon month, baby!As usual, the name should be "Qing Long", but you guys get it by now.
With this the Four Symbols set is complete! If you haven't already, you can
check Byakko, Suzaku and Genbu right here:
[Byakko] /[Suzaku] /[Genbu]
---Seiryuu, Azure Dragon of the East------------------------------------------------------
One of the four celestial creatures of the Chinese constellations, alongside the
White Tiger, the Vermilion Bird and the Black Turtle, known collectively as the
Four Symbols, or the Sì Xiàng, all four governed by the powerful Yellow Dragon.
The Azure Dragon (known in Chinese as Qinglong, Seiryuu in Japanese and
Cheong-ryong in Korean) represents the direction of East, the element of Wood
and the season of spring. Seiryuu is the noblest of the Four Symbols, and
represents the earthly forces of the Wufang Shangdi, the five main gods in
the common Chinese religion. In Japan some of his characteristics merged with
that of other dragon gods, such as Ryujin, adding details to his legends such as
owning a magnificent palace under the sea and having strong relations to water
and the ocean in general.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seiryuu is pretty famous, but its description is pretty basic: He's a blue chinese dragon.
That's it. There's almost no interesting stories surrounding him to take into consideration
for his design, so after a week breaking my head to think of some original way to portray
him I gave up and just drew the best chinese dragon I could... There's no point in fixing
what isn't broken, I guess...
He's the spring dragon, and his element is wood, two things that definitely don't immediately
come to my head when I think about dragons, so I made his horns as blossoming trees.
He certainly is more festive I guess.
Otherwise, the same patterns and symbols from the other Four Symbols are present here
as well, such as the halo containing the symbols of his celestial mansions, an orb with his
ruling cardinal direction inscribed on it... There's no point explaining that all over again.
And now, only their master remains... The great yellow dragon Kohryu can finally descend
upon us in the near future MWAHAHAHAHAHA....... I still have no idea what to do with him though...
Well, that's it. Hope you all liked it, tell me what you think of Seiryuu in the comments and see you all next time!

I can’t believe it took me this long to ask this, but do you intend to draw the yellow/golden dragon, Kohryu? I just remembered about him from playing the persona series again. He reigns over the Ssu-Ling(celestial creatures of Chinese Lore), and is located at the center of the four beast.

That was the plan originally, but I never managed to come up with a satisfactory design. Didn't help it look so much like Seiryuu as well.
Now I would like to remake the other 4 first before finally designing Kohryu, but that's a lot of work...

He governs spring after all! Gotta keep remembering folks about that!

Interestingly, the Chinese originally didn’t use that character for blue.
They used it for green. It may be why he was the spring dragon.

Yup, I thought the same! That confusion still happens nowadays in japanese because of exactly that as well, one of their words for blue can actually mean green as well depending on the context.

Oh, but I did Suzaku!
He's right here: [link]
The one truly left behind was Huang Long/Kohryu, poor thing... Not sure when I'll draw it though...

I’m fairly certain that your Huanglong drawing will be just as impressive as the others when you get around to drawing it.

Thanks a lot, that's very kind of you.
No ideas for now, but I'll be sure to return to him in the future.

No prob! How long did it took you to get all those scales and such detail?

Hmmm... This drawing is a small one, half of a A4 paper, so it took less time than the usual...
I don't know for sure, but I would guess almost 5 hours or so.

Oh okay. Wow that's very detailed for such a small size! It really shines how much time you put on it.
