That's a pretty interesting take on everyone's favorite mage-killing Aberration, I have to say. Β This is an example of photo-realism taking a back seat to expression and emotional conveyance, and it works! Β That is one bizarre-looking beholder, unsettling in its presence alone (as beholders should be). Β
(Now all this picture needs is a mid- to high-Level Monk completely ignoring all of the beholder's magic eyebeam attacks as he -- or she -- runs up and kicks the beholder in the face until it dies. Β Then it would be perfect! Β

Monk trumps Beholder.
Magic-User...well, gets trumped by the Monk too.
Therefore, the solution to all of your beholder problems is to play a monk. Β
