Description
One of the dudes I watch is pretty depressed these days and given that this is Mental Health Week I urged him to talk to his doctor about it.One of the biggest things that I look back on with my own problems with anxiety and depression was that for the most part I was in denial and fought tooth and nail to NOT go see a counselor, but you know what? When I finally manned up about it and got in there it was the best thing I ever did.
My anxiety was so bad last year I was developing agoraphobia. I would actually feel physically ill going outside, it's like that scene from A Clockwork Orange where Alex is writhing around in agony feeling physically ill. The seeds are mental but the body reacts to it. It was something that had been creeping up on me for a few years but it took getting diagnosed with hypertension to exacerbate, and so the last couple of years have been... hellish?
So anyway, I'm sure most of you are probably cracked for following me anyway, BUT if you feel like something is wrong but you don't know what or if you feel alone and have to fight something yourself you gotta remember to Bat-Slap your problems and seek help.
I mean, even Batman had Robin, right?
P.S. Don't forget, May 7th is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!!

Thanks! For me seeking help required a good kick in the butt and when I finally went it was like the world changed for me overnight.

yellow depression symbol--->
It's strange that there are a million and one things that can go wrong with the body but we have trouble accepting that a brain can face problems. Even after being on meds and seeing the difference...right now I feel like going off them because of their side effects, I think I'm better off without them but when I cut them back I see how bad it used to be.
Congrats for having the courage to seek help. Anxiety sucks. I know people who would get panic attacks out of the blue, like wham! Stinking brains chemicals. Sorry to hear your last couple of years have been hellish.
That is a good metaphor...that Batman had Robin...although my doctor would not appreciate me asking her to wear the mask and cape. heehehe.

Yes! Exactly! I have to say that I was in denial in a big way, I thought "my brain is fine, it must be something physical". But that's just where I understood so little of my brain and what powers it truly wields.
Of the many things I've learnt over the last couple years is that admitting there was a problem and seeking help was the hardest damn thing I've had to do in my life.
Looking back I feel so much stronger and more aware of myself, moreso than ever before. It's like being given a whole new life.
It's odd though, I see it expressed in my artwork, this year there are a lot more pictures with similing faces, co-incidence maybe?

I wish help was more useful. I'm thinking of cutting back on meds because of the side effects (mainly this killer fatigue) but the doctor insists I'll land in the hospital...I'm going to have problems either way if I keep eating sweets to try and stay awake (I've tried dieting and ended up losing and than gaining it all back plus more). I was point something away from diabetes on one test...then the next test was better, not so close to the danger mark.

That's a rough spot to be in
I have to lose some serious weight but it's really hard trying to do it on my own. If I could lose 90 lbs I'd be in much better shape and likely would not have to take the blood pressure medication...

I'm going to try going for walks but it is hard to get doing things. Gyms are boring and other activities usually give the worst hours to adults while kids get the best hours. I don't live in as busy an area as before xmas. It should be safer to walk, and less smokers to get trapped between.
Sorry to hear your have to take blood pressure meds.

From what I've read managing diabetes takes tons of work; it's a living hell. I want to drop 60lbs. From what I've read I don't want to be forced into all that special cooking and those injections (I just couldn't get energy for that but walking is reasonable) and then there are complications like amputations.
*slaps inheritance (unless it's in dollars and not disease)*

Well he's in favour of free, but with limits - 2 to start with, plus more depending how much you buy. (It's a smalltown Australian comic shop, there's only so much they can store and give away. He does put a random mix of old backissues out too, so I can't complain too much...)

Ohh, I see what you mean, yeah most places just give out one or two titles but you don't have to buy anything if you don't want.
I know one place that gives out grab bags of old crap from the 80s/90s haha, sometimes you get something good there

MOST of the early Image catalogue (did you know at one stage they had 14 different comics with "Blood" in the title?)
