aww what happened to your neck?

AtomicTiki In reply to JericaWinters [2011-11-14 23:08:12 +0000 UTC]

I don't know, I think I may have done it to myself on Saturday, I fell asleep on the couch watching a movie and I think I must have been at an odd angle.

At least I think I fell asleep, I was watching Mulholland Drive and it's one of those intentionally hard to follow films

Must have been a boring movie. I got a really good deal on Hercules (the Disney version); I remember it was hilarious. I love Walmart.

AtomicTiki In reply to JericaWinters [2011-11-15 00:18:23 +0000 UTC]

I quite enjoy it but I was pretty tired this weekend.

Ooh Hercules! I've been trying to draw Meg for like 3 days now. I just can't seem to get her right.

JericaWinters In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-15 00:40:24 +0000 UTC]

Do you have a535? That stuff is good for muscle pains. Problem is it's easy to use it one time than forget about it until it's expired.

What a coincidence. Meg looks very hard to draw. I'm surprised the movie wasn't a bigger success...it's very forgotten.

AtomicTiki In reply to JericaWinters [2011-11-15 00:48:29 +0000 UTC]

Y'know I think I do but I think it's expired. I have one of those hot/cold gel packs, maybe I should try it (or heck, even a hot bath might unknot the knots!)

Oh yes, I found some great notes on her construction and influences (Greek columns and amphora make up her general body shape) I might just draw those by themselves to get a feel for the shapes.

I absolutely loved the film, I saw it in theatres way back whenever and was generally surprised that not more people came out to see it. I was pleasantly surprised while I watched it as some design elements/styles seemed familiar and I discovered much to my joy that Gerald Scarfe was the Production designer for Hercules (Gerald Scarfe has a deep connection with one of my favourite groups; Pink Floyd).

Okay, now I'm all fired up lol I have to do some sketching right now or I'll burst!

JericaWinters In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-15 22:24:57 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes the expired ones still work. Do you have epson salts for a bath? I might need one myself...I'm working on one of those killer high detail graphite illustrations. A bit of a change for me to be doing traditional media. It's going to be up to 40 hours of work. Anyways, it's a strain to have the head down all the time.

I didn't know she was actually shaped based on vases and columns. That's too cool.

When I watched it again I could see some of the things that might have lead to it being branded mediocre. Like the musical score seemed to repetative. It's easier to see after getting used to things as good as Finding Nemo and Kung Fu Panda. But the monster under the rock was probably high tech for it's time but a movie like Anastasia would kick its ass.

Pink Floyd working for Disney? Interesting.

AtomicTiki In reply to JericaWinters [2011-11-16 00:51:40 +0000 UTC]

Y'know I think I do have epsom salts

My gosh that sounds fun and excruciating, what is the subject of the picture if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah, I was surprised too but then after finding some design docs from Disney I could see the Greek columns, amphorae and vases in her design. Really quite clever when you see it all together! I think that's what helped me understand some of her shapes better.

Hercules is certainly one of those transitional films for Disney, it has its moments I guess (and fond memories for me )

Lots of fun stuff

Ooh side note, talking about Pink Floyd, I bought my dad tickets to see Roger Waters perform The Wall for a Christmas gift I think he'll like that

JericaWinters In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-16 11:02:02 +0000 UTC]

Glad you have the salts.

The subject is a surprise

It's still a good movie. I remembered it better than the Ariel movie (it's a mystery why so many like that movie).

I bet your dad will be thrilled.

AtomicTiki In reply to JericaWinters [2011-11-17 03:52:37 +0000 UTC]

There was just enough left for 1 bath, now I have to find some manly way of getting more...

Ooh a surprise!! *vibrates with anticipation* I love seeing traditional arts I'm rather curious what you have up your sleeves

Yeah, I never got into The Little Mermaid, I have no idea why...

JericaWinters In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-17 12:14:33 +0000 UTC]

It's a good workout to carry something that heavy. Many people don't even know what Epson salts do. They're good for your drive way in the winter even if you don't have a drive way!

I intend to own the graphite scene for a few minutes. You's mine, graphite fans!

Heh, I never thought of it that way. Lug a giant bag of salts like that on the LRT haha

Oooh!! Gotta go check it out now!!

Love that fuzz guitar

Too bad this show didn't get green lit.

Nicely done as usual, Tiki, keep up the good work. Best of luck with your neck.

AtomicTiki In reply to Zachariah-of-Mars [2011-11-14 19:34:31 +0000 UTC]

That's for sure, I really think this show had potential (I'd surely watch it over the *shudder* ponies)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zachariah-of-Mars In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-15 04:40:01 +0000 UTC]

That it did.

I have to say, I've seen the first two episodes of MLP and honestly...its not bad...but its not for me. As for the fan-base, they're not going to go away anytime soon, best to just ignore and coexist.

AtomicTiki In reply to Zachariah-of-Mars [2011-11-15 05:38:50 +0000 UTC]

I watched the first four and tried, but I just can't get into it.

It's like Firefly and Greg the Bunny, everyone I know pissed themselves over those shows and I just couldn't see it...

Zachariah-of-Mars In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-15 07:27:04 +0000 UTC]

Pretty much. I can appreciate the animation and the voice acting since I'm a voice actor buff, but nothing really clicked for me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtomicTiki In reply to Zachariah-of-Mars [2011-11-15 12:39:53 +0000 UTC]

Fewgh, the animation... not a fan of Toon Boom here

The show survives on the voice acting and the writing

Yes... I realize the irony of having drawn several pieces of work based on shows animated in Toon Boom/Flash/Whatever

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zachariah-of-Mars In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-15 21:18:06 +0000 UTC]

I think we're on the same page here, I prefer traditional animation. But given the current trend in the ease of use of software over pencil and pen,and it kills me to say it Flash/ Toon Boom are the future. There'll always be purists but a studio doesn't want to shell out thousands for something they can get on a shoetring budget.

They told me the future would be awesome T__T

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtomicTiki In reply to Zachariah-of-Mars [2011-11-16 00:46:38 +0000 UTC]

Actually the equipment costs and finding animators who know how to use it are pretty hefty, the only thing it really saves on is postage as the digital files can just be transferred over the internet from Asia where a lot of the work is done (rather than mailing cans of film or video tapes).

The tools are getting better but sadly you can really see people still kind of learning how to use them.

Zachariah-of-Mars In reply to AtomicTiki [2011-11-18 01:41:51 +0000 UTC]

True. I suppose I'm just stuck in the old-school...for the most part. There are some cartoons out these days that are actually pretty good.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AtomicTiki In reply to Zachariah-of-Mars [2011-11-18 01:46:22 +0000 UTC]

Personally I'm a big fan of animation itself so I get a bit bored with overly static cartoons.

But then again there are some shows that crack me up regardless of their woodenness
