Description IMO the plot line is so unoriginal that they had no choice but to CG it just to get people to watch Pocahontas all over again.

hate the stamp? don't comment.

And that was my biggest problem and complaint about the film... Great CGI and very creative species and culture, but the plot was just too unoriginal... v_v

I do not think James Cameron ever said the plot line was going to be original.

I thought this plotline was considered old when Fern Gully and Pocahontas were doing it in 1992 and '95 respectively, I don't see why James Cameron thought this would even be considered solid in 2009.

To be honest, I feel that anything that shows flaws of the human race is automatically labeled as "Unoriginal and uncreative" as well as misanthropic. I'm not saying the movie was amazing, but I don't see how it was THAT uncreative.

I agree. I easily feel annoyed when I notice others crying plagiarism upon something because it causes me to feel very pessimistic.

Avatar- because average animals with a higher amount of legs are now original.

It's not only the plotline. It's the overall movie and design of the 'characters' and creatures. The characters are stereotypes, one-dimensional and the critters running around in this jungle are just put on two legs more and tadaa- whole new horse. This movie is such crap.
Not even the 'wonderful effects' made this movie any more bearable. My boyfriend was soooooo fascinated by it that he got me watching it in the cinema and I almost choked.
Horses with six legs are still horses. Not even original ones.

I admit that the plot is not very original, but why people like the movie is simply because of its effects, how it's made, the fact that someone created a nearly new world. By the way, would it be more original to rewrite the plot? No, actually not; There are so many other movies and there is no choice (or at least I think so) to invent a totally new one.
Would like to get a reply from you, but of course I can't and don't want to force you.

Even from the commercials, I could see the political agenda behind it. It was still enjoyable because of all the fancy effects and stuff, though.

When i was on a cruise they only played avatar in the theater not other movies. I just watched the movies i brought wich included ironicly Pocahontas. When i saw avatar i was just waiting for the blue lady to start singing Colors of the wind!

I bet if Avatar was just a bunch of people jumping around a forest with blue paint on them, it wouldn't get as much hype. We shouldn't let special effects direct our movies and tell our stories.

Avatar.

THE most overhyped thing since Halo 3!

When I pay good money to go see a movie, I want some form of friggin' narrative!

In truth, I wouldn't hold such a vitriolic grudge against this travesty as I do if I didn't pay Β£25 to go and see the goddamn thing! District 9, which cost only a fraction to go see and an even smaller percentage to make was INFINITELY better!

As a matter of fact, when, as a kid, I went to see Fern Gully, SO WAS THAT!
...Also, that cost less to see, too!.[link]

I think it's plot that's been done before (A LOT and not just Pocahontas. I thought more Ferngully just because I was younger when it was released but there were others before that too, books and such) but anyways it was a nice take on it and personally I thought a better one than Pocahontas but no not original. I'm a sci-fi geek so I enjoyed it an I liked the CG and the characterizations. My husband dragged me to it and I wasn't optimistic but I was bouncy when we left. Maybe that's because I loved Ferngully and it brought back warm fuzzy feelings or maybe it's the sci-fi geek in me but I liked it.

Do I think it was the best movie of the year? No... probably not. I'd give that to Star Trek or Sherlock Holmes personally.

I think a lot of people hyped it up so much that it created a bit of a backlash which happens with popular things and I get that. Twilight is over-hyped even worse so I get the "If I have to listen to you obsessed fans anymore I'll scream" response. I think a lot of those people if it hadn't been over-hyped would have enjoyed it more. I can't say that I wouldn't still want to bash my head into a wall after watching sparkly vampires so there are probably those that still wouldn't have enjoyed it too.

Anyways, anyways I agree not an original plot line but IMO it was still a good movie.

I agree. I mean, when my familly spazzed about it as they went to see it before me (I had exams then so I couldn't go) when I went to see it I expected who knows what... second 'V like Vendetta' or maybe another 'Matrix' taken from completely new side. And when the Neytiti landed before Jake with that indianish talk... I knew it won't be original. At the ending I was practically begging the movie to end as I had enough of another 'good people vs. bad people big war'. What the hell. I think 'How to train your dragon' was more original than that, even if it really was stereotypical when it comes to family movies.

Thanks you. Actually, it's worse than Pocahontas- think about it. the only thing we know about Jake is that he used to be in the marines and that his legs don't work. So much for 3D characters.

xD Anyway, I'm glad I found someone who agrees. It's like every other Hollywood movie anyway.

That's true. This hype is unbelievable. My boyfriend was so fond of this movie and so I went with him to let him see it the second time. He would be watching this movie again and again because it is soooo original. Er- no, it is not. It's Pocahontas with aliens. Nothing more. There are great movies that have no great visuals and are great, too. Is visuals everything now? A good film also requires a good plot. To me, that's more important than stunning visuals
