Description
An airbrushed Hammerhead made to look as high-tech as possible [click on image for larger view]Its supposed to be a honeycombed thermal and electrically insulated armor that masks its thermal signature while also allowing sufficient potential between the base and the polarized shielding plates electrostaticly suspended above the honeycomb. Ridiculous, but I wanted it to be the pinnacle of High-tech armor.

lol ive been drooling over this thing for like a year over on DakkaDakka, i just dont have a profile over there for seem reason. My brother plays tau and his just about exploded from overexposure to shear awesomeness when he saw this for the first time. I absolutely love this effect! Lol i think the entire 40K community is thankful that you don't do Golden Demon because nobody but you would ever win again lol. I hope i can produce something half this good at some point in my life... but i doubt it lol.

Thank you
This is by far one of my favorites. It should be it took about 40+hrs to paint! and that excludes setup.
Happy hunting

Simply beautiful.
I've been wanting to get an airbrush set-up, but now I have another reason/goal to reach for.

Spraying through a hexagonal mask. fairly simple just time consuming to do it carefully.

what did you use for the mask?

A hexagonal mesh. Honestly no idea where I got it, just keep an eye out for any kind of netting at a fabric, grocery, or hardware store.

The way you paint these models adds another layer of realism that is just beyond what you would be able to accomplish while using citadel paints. The hexagon layer looks like armor, and the lightning looks like a shield, then you add the circuitry and this thing looks like it just rolled off the assembly line. It's as if every layer serves it's own purpose and function to the model, rather than just glamoring it up to "look pretty"

That was the goal with this one.
i wanted it to look like layers of armor over honeycombed under armor that was also the insulation for a shield. The circuitry was put on to make it look like the armor plates somehow controlled the shield generator(even though hammerheads don't have shields) and that the armor plates were suspended slightly over the honey comb matrix. Overall this took about 30-40 hrs to do with probably about 40-50 small custom masks for the contoured armor plates. It was a work of love, and once again I just had to get the idea out of my head and onto a model.

How did you create the hexagons?

Woah! That is freaking awesome, easily one of the best if not the best I've ever seen. Great job!

Smashing!
I much prefer your work with the Tau to your Necron models. However brilliant the technique, the 'pimp my ride' style is somehow out of place with functionalist, undead robots.

Its also out of place with the pragmatic, efficiency above all else tau. But I don't care as I like mine to stand out on the table.

Spot on! That is what matters, after all. I guess I took Necrons a bit more personally as I play them. Super work, mate!

Awesome model you 've got there! This net pattern really makes it look much more " high tech " . May I ask how you achieved that beautifull effect?

The effect was achieved with an airbrush, Nylon hex, and a lot of time.
Thanks!
