Just a headcanon thing, I don't really follow the fandom's things, but I thought why not drawing this.Oh, by this I meant that thread is the first key to the mysterious box at the Tree of harmony. Or something. Not sure. But it seemed important to me

tons of predestination in this season. If Tirek had not come at all they would not have needed the box but they also would not have gotten the final key.

It's the first key. RD's key was already obtained. Pinkie will get hers from Cheese Sandwich (Don't deny it), maybe Twilight will get hers from Cadence or the CMC. Fluttershy might get hers for realizing her kindness. Maybe AJ will get hers from using her Honesty to do better than the Flim-Flam Brothers, or something. And the Keys will unlock the Rainbow Power that will rejuvenate the Tree of Harmony, and Twilight will live in Celestia & Luna's old Castle, after restoring it.

The thread is indeed the first key. The metal Rainbow Dash receives in S4E11 is the second key. (It has a rainbow color, and the same shine as the spool of thread; looks like a "rainbow color" + "rainbow shine" is what indicates the keys.

I doubt it.
Think about it. Wouldn't Rainbow Dash be VERY upset if her new favorite novel transformed into a key.
After all, you can't read a key.
(And even though the rest of the Mane Six could always get her another copy, RD would complain about how "it just isn't the same".)
Personally, I'm thinking one of two things:
A: The "keys" aren't literal keys, they're just random objects. The objects' connections to the "attributes of the Element of Harmony" that the Mane Six possess is what opens the box.
B: The first Key of Harmony is actually in the form of a rainbow-colored bookmark that Daring Do slipped inside the book.
Β (Well, it's because I think that this new "Rainbow Power" thing has MUCH to do with the contents of the box, and so the "keys", if initially disguised as ordinary objects, would be indicated by having a rainbow color(and a shine just like the rainbow thread's).)

maybe - the episode was about Rarity proving that she in fact represents generosity. Maybe when the ponies really prove that they represent the element given to them they will recive a gift (another key) from a pony they helped...
