Description
takes my City of Heroes characters Doctor Epoch and the Chrono King on a trip through time. From the semi-official timeline of my supergroup:
circa 65,000,000 B.C.
Date Unspecified: Doctor Epoch and the Chrono King arrive in the Cretaceous period as part of their first “Battle through Time.” Doctor Epoch, in an effort to protect the timeline from any changes they may cause, places the local flora and fauna out of phase with normal existence. The effect mostly subsides but not until well after the K–T extinction event. This area will one day come to be known as Mythos Island.
Mythos Island was created by one of my in-game friends as a kind of Dinosaur Island analogue so I just had to figure out why it existed and meddling by the two main time-travelers in our mythology seemed to a pretty easy choice. I think that this is one of the best examples of my SGs higher functions - trying to add and build on what other people have brought to the table rather than just internalizing your character's mythology to the point that everyone seems disconnected. I love my supergroup.
I've always liked the idea of Doctor Who a little more than I liked the actual show - although I am getting into the new one. In any case, there is a little something for the Doctor Who fans in this picture too.
Full title should be Battle through Time: The Creation of Mythos Island but I didn't have enough room. I always like to get the artist in the title and deservedly so - he did an awesome job.

Since the Chrono King is Doctor Epoch from a point about 10 years in the future, both would win. And lose.
Sequel art is coming. Getting the references together this weekend and the artist is starting on Monday. Next stop is 1937!

really, there's a deeper story between the two and their universe?
intriguing.

Doctor Epoch invented his time-traveling Infinity Suit back in the early 60's, encountered a trio of extradimensional entities on his first outing who charged him with protecting the machinations of Fate, and he became their Agent. After a few years bouncing around time, he got mired in 2007 and was forced to stay there until he could get his I-Suit working again. He still travels about eternity but our 'present' is where he hangs his hat.
About ten years from 'now' (now being today - whenever today might be) Doctor Epoch is grievously injured and his wife killed and that leads to him become the Chrono King and his own worst enemy. I've tried to give some depth to his story but it's not always easy in a gaming environment. My SG is kind of cool in that we try to work with what we've all put out there but even in the best of scenarios, people are usually more concerned with doing their own thing rather than being part of the whole. It isn't surprising...even professional writers do it. That's why comic continuity is always jacked.

you really should write for those mainstream comics,
and tell those publisher what not to write, and do it your way.
dr. epoch's twisted tale is really cool.
that's a very fresh idea you got there.
might as well pitch this somewhere else.
tell you what....
if there's by any chance that you'll request a commission from me someday,
i'll give you a lower deal, i'll charge you less.

Shucks, thanks man. Of course, now that you said it's fresh...someone will probably point out a half dozen similar stories.
Honestly, I'm big on homages of comic icons and tropes but I didn't have anything specific in mind when I made Epoch and the Chrono King. With so many human beings having a degree of self-loathing, making someone their own arch-enemy seemed like a natural thing to do.
I'm very intrigued about getting a commission from you! I have some outstanding commissions to pay off this week but I may be able to swing something towards the end of the month. If you're still interested in giving me a deal then, that is.

yea, of course men, for you, the deal is still on whenever you want it to.
my gigs for this month are full. so i guess we can work it out someday.
i would certainly try to do something like a comic cover art for your characters.

I think there will be a sequel image...not sure if I'll continue that tradition though.

(chuckles at the idea of people combing over the sequel image with magnifying glasses looking for Daleks, or something like that..)
