Description An XSG 3000 experimental, streamlined locomotive from SteamGen Tech., and an example of the cars it pulls. That green one is a second-class chair car, and the one below it is a diner.

The loco is actually inspired heavily by my camcorder and seems to rest on exactly half of a PRR “MM1” class frame... a cookie to whoever gets that. The cars are pretty much my “standard” steampunk rolling stock... narrow vestibule Soviet-esque stuff. Fun.

Not my best shading job this time around, but the shape of the engine just doesn’t lend itself to a study of light and shadow contrast...

Meh. That’s it for now!

This train looks really awesome. The locomotive reminds me of the ghost train from Galaxy Railways but that’s just me.

Why thanks!  I'm not familiar with that train but I appreciate the comment. ^^

That could be cool... but I think that this design is good and retired for now. ^^

where's my cookie? BTW, If you made a frame for your camera and made a paper cab that was removable, as well as a small frame and you get an instant layout tour in style!

You get a cookie when you explain the reference I made. XD

And I'm way ahead of you, mate... img.photobucket.com/albums/v42… (Different camera, same idea.)

It is a frame on a M1b loco wheel arrangement, but it has journal boxes and no valve gear, implying it is a frame from a tender, such as the "Centipede" type.

May I take a Pot-Shot Guess here about the engine?

It looks like the Baltimore and Ohio's Planned but non-existate Class W.

Could you also make a Design sheet featuring the engine, Because Im wondering I could use this as a frame for the B&O W class.

Atticus-W In reply to Lapeer [2009-11-16 17:05:10 +0000 UTC]

Hm, curious, curious! I've never actually heard of this W class. I almost would have guessed this resembled C&O streamlining. ^^

Anyway, could you be more specific about this design sheet? In any event, you're free to use the frame design if you want!

Lapeer In reply to Atticus-W [2009-11-17 00:16:33 +0000 UTC]

A Color Version with Several different angles, preferibly a left and right side view...

And thank you

Atticus-W In reply to Lapeer [2009-11-17 01:15:17 +0000 UTC]

I can give it a shot, I suppose... though the right and left sides are pretty much symmetrical, and you're already looking at it in color. ^^

Atticus-W In reply to Chakat-Railrunner [2009-08-07 15:32:14 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, thanks! I actually quite love the BL2, and have long wanted to create some kind of locomotive, steam or diesel, inspired by its peculiar streamlining. I wasn't even particularly aiming for that look here, but I'm happy it calls it to mind all the same!

Kota123 [2009-08-04 01:19:59 +0000 UTC]

At first, I didn't really notice it...but after reading some comments I was like..."That does look like a camcorder!"

Either way, it looks awesome. I think if more diesels were built like that...with a steam-like exterior...I'd like them more.

Atticus-W In reply to Kota123 [2009-08-06 15:15:01 +0000 UTC]

I've always had a thing for end-cab diesels, so I'd have to agree with you there.

And frankly, if you couldn't tell that this looked like a camera at first glance, well, that's okay in my book! XD

Oh my freaking gawd! This is SUCH EYE CANDY! I see the camcorder lines in it, but it really looks the part. the coaches are nicly made, and the whole package looks like a blend of modern with old.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Atticus-W In reply to Railwolf [2009-08-01 05:55:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!! Heh, the camera lines really do stick out too much, but the stupid thing just fit together too perfectly to change anything... that's really my one regret with the design. >< Otherwise, thanks again! Retro-futurism is what steampunk is all about, right? *Some guy points to a bunch of tophats, goggles, and a shiny brass steam carriage * Uh, right... but anyway.

once again, your designs are frikkin awesome.....even though it is an all-inside-worked MM1-framed camera engine. XD

and as always, your coaches are superior. keep it up! (or I'll die)

From now on, unless otherwise specified, pretty much any engine I draw pulls cars like those... it's just the way I think! XD

And thanks again, we certainly wouldn't want that!
