Description
Finished Samade. Hope ya like.I learned a lot on this.
would like to thank pogi for all of his help
he's a much better artist than I am,
and never hesitates to answer all of my stupid questions.
I owe this guy a lot. (he's doing commissions now btw)
be sure to spam him. : P
also would like to thank Kimeko (from mangarevolution.com)
for the "channel" technique she taught me.
I never thought to do things that way before.
it opened a lot of new possibilities for me.
*edit*
a bit embarassing: I forgot the two '' lines on the last character.
made it say samate. oops. it's fixed now, it says samade.

This is a cool pic...This is worthy of Manga status
I love the coloring of the pic...it has a true shine to them...The outfit is cool also...I am a blue fanatic though...I think she would be cooler in blue...But that's me...Too tell you the truth her legs were the first thing that popped out at me when I first viewed the drawing...she has nice legs....Ahhhh Yeah
... slerp...slerp...sorry

thank you maverick!
I'm like you man, it's all about the blue (my website is proof of that )
which is why I tried yellow. I dont use it nearly enough ^__^
glad you noticed those legs too! I spent most of my time on them!

It was the same way with me when I was drawing ChunLi from Street Fighter Alpha 2...She has some sexy legs but they were hard as heck to draw correctly

Hmmm, from far off (and zoomed out preview), this almost looked like a Magna-Carta pic... upon closer inspection, I can see your own personal touches shine through more ^_^ Very nicely done! The suggestion of depth through fading of details/lines is a technique that was pulled of expecially well for being in color; And the use of your pencil lines to pull off the embrodery (is this the right word? the designs on the sleeves!) Looks very convincing
Yeah, I'll have to look through the rest now... As if the pics of Elena wheren't "come on and look!" enough, already... -Hums "Beats in my head" from Street Fighter III Third Strike-

thanks man! I'll admit I study htk's coloring style quite a bit.
so it's good to hear the influence shows in my work at some level
and thanks for noticing the embroidery man! that was the part I had most trouble with!

It seems I havent commented on just how Hawt this is yet. It's hawt like... like something that's more hot that hot. Very awsome. I'm curious about what this channeling thing is.

thanks man! well the channel thing is a cool way to separate your lines from your art no matter how messy it may be. The multiply layer technique is cool, but this way allows you to color on your lines too. I'm definitely gonna make a tutorial for both methods. ^^

Insomnia202 In reply to augustc4 [2005-03-17 06:53:47 +0000 UTC]
Oh! You mean by selecting all the white and erasing it? That's what I used to do with my cgs. If I have a file with a strong enough outline It's the method I prefer. It's really cool when you can change the actual line color.

augustc4 In reply to Insomnia202 [2005-03-17 13:20:02 +0000 UTC]
kinda like that, but it's in reverse. it's selecting anything black and all shades of black (not including any whiteness in those shades), and making a new layer out of them. selecting black picks up white in the process (which is no good), but if you go through channels, you're left with opacity in place of white. it's really trick!

Wow! That's really impressive august...I'm lovin' the CG, I like how it fades as it gets further to the back. Reminds me of Hyung Tae-Kim's work (the artist behind magna carta and war of genesis)

Yeah I know what you mean. What really attracted me to his work was his coloring...it's really amazing. I'm sure he uses painter as do a lot of anime artist/illustrator I read up on. But most of them, if not all of them switch between both painter and photoshop, but I'm sure you could get the same results in photoshop alone..one of my school instructor uses both painter and photoshop and which whatever program he decides to use the results look identical.

augustc4 In reply to MAG83 [2005-03-16 17:58:21 +0000 UTC]
I strongly believe photoshop can do anything any other program can, but it takes a bit more work and knowlege. Whereas painter is made to assist you in getting a painted feel. maybe I'm off, but that's my speculation at least.
I would use painter, but that program runs sooooo slow on my crappy pc. Not to mention, I just can't make heads or tails of it. Most of the stuff doesn't work the way I'd expect and just leaves my head spinning. If someone would just lay out all of the technical aspects of that app and how someone like htk uses it, and which tools, I'd probably give it another few tries. lol. (<-- quitter over here) And you're right about the switching. From what I've noticed they all seem to go between the two apps. They never tell you for what reasons though! haha. they just say "photoshop and painter" suckers.

MAG83 In reply to augustc4 [2005-03-19 23:28:33 +0000 UTC]
I think they start out in painter with some of the painting...then they finalize it in photoshop. Well that's what I've come to believe from what I gathered.

It's the katakana on your picture. I may have misread it because I was partially asleep.
Faito= Fight Mirenyamu= Millennium, likely.
Millenium Fight!
I love tan skin.

I've been waiting a while to see the finished product of this piece. I like the pose (which is a little more dynamic than some of your previous pieces) and the coloring and lineart are both superb. A quick question, how did you get the whole dragon effect on the sleeves to work out like they did? Great job though.

augustc4 In reply to toetread [2005-03-14 20:24:03 +0000 UTC]
thanks man.
as for the dragon... well, I drew it in photoshop with the pencil tool on a layer of it's own.
then I clicked "preserve transparency" on that layer, and colored the lines to make them blend with the sleeves. does that make any sense?
