Description
My final submission for the Serpentes Portfolio which will be making its debut at FC. Go hunt a copy down for yourself. The loose theme of the portfolio was snake legends and representations of snakes from around the world. There's no one particular legend associated with this guy, but I chose the Jamaican/Carribean area and one of Jamaica's few native species, the Black Racer.

Pretty little thing, I love how serene it looks curled around the tree with blossoms and shells against the background of a roaring sea. True beauty.

Beautiful. I generally don't like anthro snakes because people seem to mess them up a lot. But this is just stunning. <3

Enchanting! I tend to draw my vulture creatures with crooked necks. Hm, nice to see a snake face instead of the usual naga. Snakes fall into the hard to anthromorphize category.

Lovely work, mate.. I'll definately be back soon to check out more of your gallery. Cheers, and a happy birthday! ^_^

I like the theme of this one. The choice of an ocean background, with the tree and flowers (I honestly have no idea what species they are) and even more so on the idea of the snake collecting shells and ornamenting the tree with them (the beaded/jeweled strings was an especially nice touch) all turned out wonderfully. The colors have such a tropical appeal in the richness of the tones and the coloring was very well done overall.
Beautiful work Skade.

WOW! How awesome would it be to be this guy!? Another job well done, no, stupendously done!!! Keep it up and I may need to start making my own emoticons that are so great, they can only be used on good art like this.

M, Lookin good! I really like the detail you put into the beads and scales and stuff!
So, you'll be at furcon? Is there a chance you'll be selling prints there, and which ones? I'd be extatic to boy an antelope anthro.

Unfortunately I won't be at Furcon, as I'm on the other side of the country :[ AC is my yearly excursion. That's just when the portfolio will be making its first appearance.

I like all the little things hanging in the tree. I have a hawthorn at home that my mum and I hang shiny things from (beads, pretty pebbles, streamers, etc.) - great fun! I especially like the sand dollar, as I'm studying echinoderms right now.
The stylised swirliness of the tree bark is pretty. That, and the Caribbean setting makes it quite Monkey Island-ish. Dunno if that was what you were going for, though.
It took me a second to work out what was going on with snake-dude's neck - at first I thought it was a hood like a cobra's. I think maybe his neck could stand to be a little more rounded in outline. I do like the way you draw snakes realistically angular rather than in perfect curves, but I think this one's neck is just a little too rectangular-looking.
Also, he doesn't really look as though he's holding the conch shell. Or rather, he seems to be holding it too lightly for a thing its size. Shells that big are pretty hefty, so he'd need to have a more secure grip than that.
It's still a very pretty piece, and nice to look at. And I do love how you've done the scales. Wish I'd thought of that first.
