Description
I wont try and cover up the fact that my recent reading has lead to this little creation (though if you can guess WHAT inspired this, props to you! And no its not Star-anything, including BSG)This is 99% 3D Studio max. I rendered it with a Z-map to do the DOF at the end. Only 1 texture used ( the screen). The rest is simple materials and lighting. All the post glow is done through 3DS as well. This angle doesn't show off all the details either. All seats have a 5 point safety harness, two hours of oxygen with a mask in the left compartment, and a 3D interface projected from the larger of the two arm rests. The Captain's chair, and Fleet Commander's chair both have the 3D interface turned on, showing a full keyboard and 2 'ball track' manipulators for working with the main display. The main display is a 3D projection in the center of the room.
You'll also notice that each watch station has a status board with basic information, and the center window pane has internal ship time, as well as targeting information in red.
This was about 6 hours (total) work over two days. I've still got a thing or two to do on it, but this will work for now. Download for 1680 x 1050 image.

I'd love to see your rendition of the fleet conference room, as well as the exterior of the ships!

I've got one exterior, but it doesn't fit the book's discription (Three books in! WTF?)[link] or :thumb313044848:

That is one epic bridge. I like it! Very great job on it! However, is it usually that dark in the bridge or is there some dome lights?

Well, being that all the displays are holographic in nature, and that makes them additive, having dark lighting is essential to easy viewing. Its also dramatic
Imagine it like every display is the HUD of a fighter jet. Another good example to look at is the bridge of a submarine. Rather dark because the people working in there are focusing on the instruments, not writing on paper / reading from books. We tend to lean towards over-lighting scenes, paintings, shots in a movie, in room design, because we spend so much time in places meant for traditional reading and writing, or consumption of paper literature of some kind.
Its also dramatic... ^_^

Heheh, I should start posting my 3d models on dev-art. I'd like to somewhat compete against you. You are so good at this that I'd love to challenge you.
Keep up the great work nanashi, we look foreward to you making an anime soon, and if you need a voice crew, character design crew, background music crew, send me a message and I'll hook you up dude. I've been a fan of yours ever since your failed Evangelion film. How about it?

You're on my list should the opportunity arise. Right now I'm casting for Robotech Episode 3 Remake, but the roles in that are being played by the original VAs (to the best of my ability to contact them). There could very well be some smaller stuff as I near the end of it though, (radio traffic from the SDF-1, and such)

Thanks, and thanks for not fav and running. Seems to be an epidemic now days.
Good luck with your engine too BTW. I think games like 'Infinity: Quest for Earth' demonstrate that now days, home brew can be as impressive, if not more so than the commercial stuff.
