The mother orca and baby circle each other around the center heart-cut orca agate stone. The metal is rose-gold cos like me, Ava prefers pink where she can get it, and her mom is very aware of this! When they moved to another country, Avas' mother got it for her because her mother had to live in Tokyo to do her work, but Ava would be further down in the country to live with her step-brother and go to school with less hubbub. She got it as a reminder that no matter how far an orca travels, they still always see their family again!
*Southern Resident orcas regularly meet in the Salish sea in a kind of family reunion, where several sub-groups that are all related see eachother and can reconnect before everyone parts ways again! I really love the sense of community and family killer whales have in their lives and I really wanted to reflect those qualities in Avas' senshi/civilian backstory <3
