Description
This is St Nectan's Kieve.A walk through the ancient glen alongside the Trevillet River takes you along the ancient woodland path that has been used for at least 1,500 years.
Around 500AD, St Nectan built his sanctuary above the waterfall here. Before he died though, he was carried to the edge of the Kieve (basin) where he dropped his bell into the waters, declaring it would never ring for unbelievers.
Legend states that at times, the bell tolls to warn of misfortune to come. Ghostly monks have been witnessed chanting along the pilgrim path as well as two ghostly grey women, said to be St Nectan's sisters: that legend says are buried beneath a large flat slab in the river, near the bottom of the water fall. St Nectan himself, is buried in an oak chest somewhere below the falls.
More importantly, my sincerest thanks to my fellow pilgrim, Emma for what was the most magical of adventures that day. I hope in some small way these photographic memories can illustrate the beauty and serenity we both felt.

Splendid piece captured and inspite of the gloomy look, the place represents tranquility & rich history as well
Though reading the description gave me a cold chill for the place speaks of a legend which has "Ghostly monks have been witnessed chanting along the pilgrim path as well as two ghostly grey women, said to be St Nectan's sisters"
But none the less, great moment captured

Definitely not a place of fear or forboding, quite the opposite, a very cleansing and uplifting place for the spirit.

There's a hermitage at the top, with a room dedicated to the spirits of the falls. Has become a place of meditation and peace.
