Description I've taken into account some of the critique I've received for [link] I've saturated the greens slightly, removed the square crop and tried to keep the main subject balance off centre.

Let me know what you think of this version compared to the original. I'm liking the critique feature very much and it's nice to hear your feedback.

I'm not 100% with you on this. I'd prefer to see the left foreground a bit brighter - from the arch to the waterline f the waterfall, and the pool at the bottom. The top left highlights are also a bit bright and draw the eye away too much. Perhaps an DHRi; photo 1 of the waterfall, photo 2 of the arch and right-hand side, and photo 3 of the top left area. Otherwise, I like the feeling of tranquility of the image with its greens and muted colour in the pool. The detail in the moss and the grass on the top of the arch is wonderfully sublime.

Much better composition of the falls. The square crop left me wanting more...
Like the saturation boost in this one too. I would maybe burn back the brighter top left a little to blend it in to the rest of the shot as it is a little distracting.
Detail is good, not O.T.T and the water motion is at a level that doesnt over power the rest of the image and is depth.
The upper falls are also quite bright so if you do re visit the image maybe burn that down too a little or duplicate it in PS and make an adjustment layer and over lay etc etc...
Otherwise its easily the best shot of the Glen on DA.
Well done you.

Thanks!

I've just had a quick play and I can easily get some more detail back into the upper part of the water. The top left bright bit is proving to be more difficult. Some areas are too bright and when I tone down the areas that are salvageable, it makes the bright areas even brighter.

It's a challenge for the next time I visit!

Looks wonderful. Compared to the first version the green looks more like green (I know, sounds silly ). The square crop would look nice too. But it's more interesting like it's here. The opening in the rock isn't straight in the middle and so it looks better (in my mind).
Great shot and good rework.

A huge improvement over your first!

Now a request. What would this look like without the long exposure? The waterfall without the blurring in other words. Maybe manual focus on infinity, ISO increased, etc.

Sorry, no can do. I do have some other images of St Nectan's lurking in my gallery though and maybe others on DA have been to the same place?

They say it never hurts to ask. Thanks anyway. That keyhole connected with the waterfall is mighty interesting. I never would have seen it but for your photos. Thanks.

Absolutely beautiful!! I really like this one more than the previous. The light cliffs on the upper left are slightly distracting, but not too much so. Nice capture and comp of strikingly lovely place!!

Lovely capture. I prefer this to the square crop.
What a super place, I haven't been here but next time I come to Cornwall I think I'll have to visit.

Just remember to have some change on you since you have to pay to see the falls. It's worth it though

The comp is a bit stronger but you need a cloud to come and block the sun. Seems like you have to get back here...rats

I prefer this one, about the sunlight at the top. I have to agree that i understand now why you cropped it. But I do like this one here more! cuz now you are getting a more broad view of the scenery, where the light on the green stone wall is coming from for example. As well for the water, on the other shot is just appears.

Other point is here you can also see what kind of weeather conditions you had there. I thought about an dark/cold/rainy day. lolz

Just my thoughts. This here is my fav!

Yes, I see your point. I know what I'm looking at because I've been there but the majority of people who look at this image will have never been, so the broader view does work in that sense. You don't question the content so much because it is giving it to you.

It was nice and sunny. The waterfall is cut into a narrow rock face. I don't think it often gets a lot of direct sunlight.

Thank you for the feedback and fav

This really is a hard choice, the top left yellow throws me some, but damn this is beautiful!

Shutterflutter In reply to kkart [2009-04-21 16:10:40 +0000 UTC]

I agree. That's why I originally cut it since it's slightly distracting. We were blessed with sunshine that day but the result was the harsh light there.

You feeling better now?
