Description

Name: Arnette Euphrasie

Born: June 18, 1815; Montreuil, France

Died: May 18, 1872; Paris, France (age 56)

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: Arnette was born to Adèle Tholomyès, a poor woman working in a Montreuil factory as she awaited the return of her lover, Faucon Euphrasie, from the Napoleonic Wars.  However, Arnette never got the chance to know her mother, as just a few weeks after she was born, Adèle was arrested after she hit a wealthy nobleman who tried to make non-consensual advances on her.  Adèle, already extremely sick from working in the factories, died in prison, and Arnette was sent off to an orphanage where she was treated poorly and forced to work as a servant girl for the staff.  It was a hard nine years that made her miserable, but a light came in the form of her father, who had been searching for her ever since he heard the news of his beloved’s death.  When he finally found his long lost daughter in 1824, he immediately adopted her and took her home where she was treated like a princess.  Arnette discovered that her father was more than just a simple soldier.  He was also a member of an ancient Brotherhood known as the Assassins, who have been dedicated to defending mankind since the dawn of humanity.  He explained to her that they fought against a group called the Templars, an organization built on tyranny and a lust for control, a drive which led them to cause the chaos and destruction of the original French Revolution back in 1789.  Knowing how bad it felt to live under oppression, and not wanting anyone to feel the same pain she did, Arnette joined the Assassins under her father's training, and the two became an unstoppable team.

Also in 1824, King Louis XVIII was succeeded by his brother, Charles X, who while popular at first quickly lost favor with the people of France as the Templars began whispering in his ears and convinced him to pass unpopular policies and censorship laws.  This culminated in the July Revolution of 1830, during which the people revolted against the king and his army.  The revolt resulted in the abdication of Charles and he was replaced by Louis Philippe I in what became known as the July Monarchy.  However, this new king proved just as terrible, and the Templars took him as their own as well.  Arnette and Faucon found themselves forced to deal with yet more revolutionary zeal as the Templars had outraged the people by assassinating a famous supporter of the common people, Jean Maximilien Lamarque, in 1832.  This, combined with dissatisfaction with the government and poor living and working conditions for the common man, culminated in the June Rebellion, which Faucon, Arnette, and other Assassins participated in.  However, this uprising was not successful, and Louis-Philippe remained on the throne.

Heart's heavy but hopeful, the Assassins carried on their lives.  Arnette had fallen in love with a dashing young man names Charles Pontmercy, whom she married in 1833, and the couple stood by her father’s side while he passed away in his home that same year.  Now with the drive to carry on her father's work, Arnette made it her mission to destroy the Templar monarch and his bourgeois supporters.  As the years went on, the corruption of Louis-Philippe’s government grew and grew, and it crippled the nation, especially the lower classes.  A bad harvest in 1846 led to peasant uprisings, and in 1847 the country was thrown into economic turmoil.  Sick of being ignored by the government, the people rose up in another Revolution in 1848, which forced the king off his throne once and for all and established the Second French Republic.  Arnette and Charles celebrated this major victory over the Templars with a lovely night in their bedroom, which resulted in the birth of their son Jean nine months later.

However, despite the formation of this new Republic, it quickly fell to the snake that is the Templar Order as well, who influenced the conservatives placed in power under the guise of the “Party of Order” against the mistreated working class who found their backing in Arnette and her Assassins.  Revolts and uprisings were common across France, and the government took many innocent lives using the firearms of General Louis-Eugène Cavaignac in response.  After these initial uprisings, there was a glint of hope with the election of Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, nephew of Napoleon I, to the presidency later that year.  Bonaparte, bearing a significant family name and having the support of almost all social classes, was a prime target for influence from Assassins and Templars alike.  However, things did not go as planned for either group, as in 1851, Napoleon led a coup against the government entirely and made himself the new emperor of France.  All of his opponents, many Templars, were arrested, and uprisings against the coup led by the Assassins were unsuccessful.  The whiplash of this was rough for both groups, and the people of France as well as Napoleon III instituted harsh censorship laws across the land in 1852.  Over the next two decades, the emperor proved to have a complicated relationship with Assassins and Templars alike on various issues, much like his uncle before him.

Throughout the 1860s though, Napoleon III often had more Assassins like Arnette whispering in his ears than Templars.  He supported and funded multiple reconstruction and building projects across Paris, enacted policies to help improve the lives and extend the rights of the working class, and even advocated for greater education of women.  Templars still whispered from his court, but their voices were fought against by the Assassins.  In the latter half of the decade, the Templars switched their plans to retake power.  With the Unification of Germany under Otto von Bismarck coming into conflict with France, the Templars seized their opportunity by infiltrating Bismarck’s court and using it to establish their dominance over much of Europe.  By 1870, the tension between France and Germany ultimately culminated in the Franco-Prussian War, in which Napoleon was captured and France was defeated.  This led to the collapse of the Empire and the creation of the Third French Republic.  This new government found itself scrambling to figure out what to do next, and Arnette sadly did not get to see such resolutions, as she passed away in 1872.  France entered it's Belle Époque era without her, leaving it instead to be experienced by her granddaughter, Birdie.

She is an ancestor of Ava Arlie.

Ye.  It was an early predecessor to true revolvers like the ones that Samuel Colt fashioned.  A guy named Elisha Collier designed and built the models that would eventually inspire Colt himself.
