Description Carmen MacKenneth is the wife of Squire MacKenneth, mother of Wallace, and therefore is basically Grace's paternal grandmother. She is Scottish, like her husband, but due to her gender was not able to become a Mason like him. It's a real shame, because she was an incredibly intelligent individual with extensive knowledge of history and esotericism. Despite not being a formal member of the organization, she basically served as Squire's right hand man and unofficial archivist. She spent many hours sandwiched between bookshelves, researching Masonic lore, history, and dabbling in a little bit of old Celtic cantrips. In fact, after she and her husband fled to the Americas to escape their corrupted lodge, she composed the last great book of prophecy handed down from their ancestors. This tome doubled as a grimoire, and it's the same book which Ely digs up in my novel, which he uses to learn his magic spells to help Dawn in their misadventures.

Design notes, this one is in desperate need of a clean up. I drew this a while ago so I can't remember what exactly threw me off but I do remember really having trouble with the lineart. I like the basic shapes so it probably just needs to be touched up at some point in the future. Her dress is meant to echo the Union Jack, because though her family were Scots living during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, they actually ended up siding with the British. Pretty much everyone and their dog who writes about the Jacobite Rebellion paints it as this very grand modernized Scots vs England showdown, but the more I've looked into the historical side of things, the less appealing this narrative became. Add this to my Scottish ex-girlfriend telling me her circle is actually quite tired of her government blaming everything on England and threatening independence instead of actually putting resources into solving their own problems like rampant gang violence, and I started thinking of the interesting stories I could get out of this dynamic. Squire and Carmen's rite ends up getting infiltrated by men who are more obsessed with power and conspiracy than the cosmic prophecy the Masons were bound to in ancient times. They spill so much blood and excommunicate so many of the old guard that the Masons as they once were cease to exist, and only the MacKenneths are really left to preserve the prophecy. Though the Jacobites are defeated, the Masons are still around and oversaturated with conspirators itching to murder the entire MacKenneth bloodline just to find out what they're hiding, hence why they fled to America. They had to ensure the prophecy came to pass, lest the world be without its heroes when the time finally came…
