Description

what is this ‘perspective’ you speak of?

The conflict between the Greeks and the Persians began when the Persian king, Cyrus the Great, conquered the land of Ionia, which was heavily populated by Greek citizens.  The Persians, heavily influenced by the Templars, lorded their power over the Ionians, who eventually revolted against the tyrants in 499 BC, beginning the war.  The Persian king, Darius, a Templar ally, saw this resistance, he sent his troops to put the rebellion down.  This conflict resulted in a stalemate in Ionia, but Darius sought to further his conquests into Greece.  The Greek Assassins saw this and united the Greek people to band together to defeat the Templars in order to defend the democratic government that Greece ran on.  The Greeks fought hard against the Persians and won a major victory at the Battle of Marathon, marking Darius’s first invasion as a failure.

The fighting was put on pause for a while as both nations raced to build up their militaries.  Templars on both sides of the war started making plans to use the chaos to take power for themselves while the Assassins on both sides started strategizing a means of defeating the Templars and liberating the citizens from their evil grip.  The Assassins inspired several people in the lands conquered by Persia to rise up against the tyrants and take back their freedom.  Darius sent his men to put these rebellions down, but he died in 486 BC on his way to help his men in Egypt.  His son, Xerxes, a master Templar, took the throne and continued his father's brutal conquest.

Fighting resumed in 480 BC as the Persians continued their conquest into Greece.  Several battles erupted such as the Battle of Thermopylae, in which the Greek king Leonidas led 300 Spartans against the Persians, and ultimately lost.  However, the Assassins eventually managed to help the Greeks push the Persian Templars back, like when they captured Byzantium in 477 BC.  It had eventually gotten to the point where the war seemed like it would come to end, but the Templars had managed to convince the Greek government to lead another attack on Persia for revenge, thinking that the Templars in Persia would surely defeat them.  Of course, the Assassins wouldn't let democracy be destroyed, and they continued to aid the Greeks and other places oppressed by Templars.

They even managed to eliminate Xerxes with the help of a newly-invented weapon that would become iconic of the Assassin Brotherhood: the hidden blade, a retractable blade mounted on the forearm.  In 465 BC, a Persian Assassin named Darius infiltrated the king's palace with the help of an Assassin spy, Artabanus.  Darius killed Xerxes, marking the first recorded use of a hidden blade in history.  After the weapon’s success, it was mass-produced and sent to Assassins across Eurasia.

The Greco-Persian Wars eventually ended in 449 BC when a treaty was signed and both nations retreated their forces.  The Greeks had won the war, but unfortunately the political chaos within the nation led to the Templars taking over from within.  They all but destroyed the democracy that the Assassins had tried to protect, and used their power to slaughter and oppress innocent lives.  The Spartan Templars defeated the Athenians and other Greek city-states during the Peloponnesian Wars, asserting themselves as the dominant force by 404 BC.

The Templars eventually abandoned their pawns in Greece and Persia for a brand new leader.  In 336 BC, they allowed their lands to be conquered by their newest protégé, a young man with incredible might, as well as a few… unique characteristics.  This new Templar dog would become one of the biggest threats to the Assassins yet, as well as one of the biggest threats to the liberty and justice of the common people yet.  This young man, with the help of his pawns and the Staff of Eden they provided to him, swept across the land in a wave of destruction.  This young man would eventually become known to history as Alexander the Great.
