NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!
Their chief weapon is surprise! Surprise and fear, fear and surprise! Their two weapons are fear and surprise, and ruthless efficiency… Their three weapons are fear and surprise and ruthless efficiency… and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope… Four. Four weapons they have are fear and surprise and… oh nevermind.
Lol. Okay. Now that I've gotten my inner Monty Python out, let's talk history. The Spanish Inquisition was a tribunal established on November 1, 1478 by Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile. This brutal military force was tasked with maintaining the orthodoxy of Catholicism in Spain and its territories. Completely intolerant to any non-Catholic peoples, they slaughtered and/or banished hundreds of the Jews and Muslims that lived in Spain. As you can imagine, this did not go over well with the Assassins.
In 1491, an Assassin named Luis de Santángel traveled to Italy to seek the aid of the legendary Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who was busy tracking down the mad monk Savonarola at the time. Luis said that his friend, Christoffa Corombo, was meeting with some of Rodrigo Borgia’s men to discuss financing a voyage he planned. Borgia had set a trap, however, planning to kill Corombo and steal his maps. Ezio stopped the plot and rescued Corombo. Luis thanked Ezio and informed him that the Assassins in Spain were extremely threatened in Spain. Since the Assassins generally supported the Jews and Moors that were oppressed by the Inquisition, it wasn't hard for Borgia to manipulate the inquisitor general and Master Templar, Tomás de Torquemada, into branding the Assassins as heretics for the Inquisition to target. Believing it his responsibility, Ezio agreed to follow Luis and Corombo back to Spain to help rescue the local Assassins.
And so by 1492, Ezio worked tirelessly to save the Assassins and end the Inquisitor Templars that hunted them. He even managed to confront Torquemada at one point, but the inquisitor escaped. Ezio, satisfied that the Assassins could handle themselves after that, planned to return to Italy, but not before helping Corombo get an audience with Queen Isabella, who agreed to finance his voyage westward. Ezio then traveled back to Italy to continue his hunt for Savonarola.
Despite Ezio's work, the Assassins still fell to Templar blades at an alarming rate, with their Mentor having been burned at the stake the same year Ezio left. Two Assassins Aguilar de Nerha and his companion Maria had escaped that execution and continued on the mission they'd been given. See, the Inquisitors had kidnapped the son of the Assassin ally, Sultan Muhammad XII, in hopes of ransoming the boy for an Apple of Eden that the Sultan held. The Assassins knew the sultan would trade for his son, and so they took on the responsibility of reclaiming the Apple themselves. Aguilar himself was the one to take it back from Torquemada and later passed the Apple to Christoffa Corombo just before the explorer left on his voyage to the New World. The Assassins were severely weakened as the years went on, though they did manage to assassinate Torquemada in 1498.
By that year, Luis de Santángel had begun to slowly poison Queen Isabella after he discovered that she had been secretly working with the despicable Templar, Cesare Borgia. Luis died before he could finish the job, and so Ezio sent some of his recruits to Spain to finish it for him in 1504. Later, in 1511, the Assassins began to rebuild and tried to take down Torquemada's successor, Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, though they were unable to kill him until 1517.
The Assassins in Spain had a very difficult time during the reign of the Inquisition, but as centuries passed they eventually gained enough influence to fully combat the Templars of the land. And as of July 15, 1834, the Spanish Inquisition was officially disbanded. But be careful, for some say they still lay in wait, mostly from behind curtains in British comedy shows, ready to jump out. Because as stated before, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition

Great job, will your next one be based on Revelations? By the way good choice of proverb.

Thanks ^^
Yep, Revelations and the Ottomans are next on my list for this series.
Oh xD the proverb wasn't my choice. That's just what's actually carved onto the side of the Giralda tower. I guess it is fitting though lol

Didn't know that about Giralda tower, but you're right, it is quite fitting.
Also if you decide to do Puritan Assassins, look into Solomon Kane. He is a fictional swordsman created by Robert E Howard, and Kane would have been a perfect assassin.

The colonial era is coming up on my list pretty soon (and I'm really excited to start those pics because it's one of my favorite eras ^^), so there's definitely gonna be some Puritan stuff coming up.
